Anyone who has read my previous christmassy themed posts will know that I have an ongoing battle with Mr F and his ' hilarious ' interpretations of my xmas present suggestions/requests . However I thought I had cracked it this year when I asked him to pay for my 2018 Triathlon entries and he generously entered me for 5 ( ! )- one a month from April to August ( sometimes you can be TOO thoughtful ) .So that's me committed to a strict training schedule throughout the year , with no respite , but it's do-able I told myself . And remember - up until 2 years ago I had never even run to catch a bus , so in my mind I'm doing pretty well !! But then , on christmas morning , Mr F gave me my ' surprise ' gifts - a box of Green and Blacks mini chocolate bars ( lovely ! ) and then the one that was supposed to be an exciting and clever mystery that would have me trying to solve the riddle of it's meaning all day . Only this is Mr F and after 35 years of marriage I know exactly how his mind works . And , with a sinking heart , I knew exactly what it meant as soon as I clapped eyes on it . I am not a happy bunny at all . Can you guess the answer ? He gave me - half a Snicker with March 2018 written on it , wrapped in a Liverpool scarf .

He's entered you into the Liverpool Half Marathon 2018! BINGO !! That's 10 weeks away and the furthest I've ever run so far is about 7 miles . I could kill him !!!! I even ended up going for a 10k run on Boxing Day in a moment of blind panic , exactly like one of those ernest , sweaty , marl clad individuals I have despised my whole life . What's wrong with a pair of slippers and a bottle of Bromley Tweed ?

Look on the bright side; he could have given you the whole Snickers bar! Or maybe that's his plan for next year...
Good luck!

Flee - you have my admiration !!
Just a thought - since you're committed to running it, why not run for a chosen charity(ies) which might give you a real purpose and the impetus to achieve. I'm sure you'd have lots of supporters, me for one!

Sent from my SM-A300FU using proboards OMG - I never even thought of that !!! I did consider , by way of revenge , entering him in something like the Marathon de Sables ( 155 miles across the desert , carrying your own food and water ) but , knowing him , he'd be absolutely thrilled . I need to get him into normal , manly past times like beer and darts .

I'm sure you'd have lots of supporters, me for one! Or I could tell Mr F that , in future , he can just donate the entry fee to his charity of choice - thus cutting out the middle man ( me ! ) and the need for me to actually do anything strenuous that involves sports bras , trainers and sweating . I have always maintained that God invented ponies so that I didn't have to run .

Must admit that I would have ducked out of all that activity ages ago - cutting out the middleman sounds a good plan to me.

Can I just say good luck and I feel your pain. I have just had five weeks off with injury from my running addiction. The realisation that I know have to crack on with my training for my first ever half marathon in April is getting a bit real. Furthest I have done is 10 k and with injuries not really better, it’s going to be tough! I am sadly no spring chicken either Hope all goes well for you

Furthest I have done is 10 k and with injuries not really better, it’s going to be tough! I am sadly no spring chicken either Hope all goes well for you When you increase your distance beyond 10k try taking an energy gel about 20 mins before your run . I have tried them previously during triathlons but found them really hard to digest and they made me feel quite nauseous , so I tended to drink flat Coke as an alternative ( which does work very well and is a lot cheaper than poncy ' sports energy drinks )' .However Mr F has recently introduced me to ' Highs' performance gels which are much lighter and more palatable and , as you're supposed to make sure that your system is used to them well before a competition , he told me to have one if I was planning on doing a longer training run .So that's exactly what I did when I set off for a 10k the other day . Didn't really feel that different but then when I got to the point where I would normally circle back towards home I was still feeling quite fresh , so decided to carry on to the next village . When I got there I decided to keep going to the next pub , and then , to cut a long story short , I just kept going until I had run round the block . Now for most of you ' running round the block ' might not seem very impressive but in our rural neck of the woods ' the block ' is just short of 10 miles , so not too bad then !So would definitely recommend trying the gels ( crack cocaine for joggers !) - and you can take them during your run too if you start to flag . And thank you all for your very kind offers of sponsorship , it is really lovely of you all and I hope you will not be offended , but I am doing so many events now that dealing with sponsorship forms and collecting money just makes life too complicated X

I admire anyone who can run for more than 5 mins, I use to do a bit and I mean a bit - just enough to make me ok to do the county level cross country, shooting and swimming. My other half put me off continuing running in any shape or form because he’s so annoyingly good! Why does that put me off ? ... he has an insufferable case of that awful condition called the “superiority complex” And my personality can’t cope with that.. so I arm wrestle him instead, and walk away knowing ‘yup’ I’m the superior one Footnote to self: your just as bad as he is
Best of luck Flee your amazing!!!! Xx

Well I did it ! It was all going very smoothly until I decided to have an energy gel at the 9 mile marker . This happened to coincide with a turn onto the riverside pathway and into the oncoming wind and I ended up with half the gel in my mouth and the rest smeared across my face . In the stiff breeze it went from 'sticky' to 'set solid' in seconds and I completed the remaining 4 miles with my face frozen in an expression of " Whaa ??" . Mr F kindly peeled it off for me at the finish so not only am I currently in a state of negative calories but my complexion is glowing and free from blemishes . Bonus . In case you're interested my time was 2.31.08 - I'm not fast but also neither am I feeling any after effects ( actually cooking Sunday roast dinner as I write ). Mr F thinks it's hysterical that I finish in exactly the same physical state as I started , but I have always maintained that I don't do sweating or heavy breathing - I leave that to the competitive gym jocks .

Good luck with that. Is Mr Flee joining you?? I have thought of a "painful" pressie for Mr F, what about a pampering day with full body wax??? You could tell him it will help his speed on the bike and in water
