Thought we were getting it bad down here in the South East - Kent particularly but looking at the red alert weather forecast for Scotland and North East - thinking of you all. Take care, keep warm and hope all your animals are safe and o.k. XX Any tips for stopping water freezing in the stables appreciated! Daren't put a ball in think Jacob will eat anything at the moment including me!!

Thank you for the concern - yes, it is BAD up here!! No other word for it.
As for thing in water bucket - yes ball (decent sized kiddies plastic football) sizable bit of wood . . . . . I was amazed to see a BHS senior member of personnel (published) the other week suggest an apple, which would surely lead to choking . . .

We’ve got s fair bit in sunny old Yorkshire but not as much as some further north & east!!!! It was enough to grind everything to a halt today and close the majority of schools.

Well it has achieved something I thought was impossible - the implement sale and the breeding sale are cancelled at Borderway Mart tomorrow and Friday!! The horses are miserable, the dogs are happy and I'm just struggling on!! We have about 3 to 4 inches here

Yes, that would seem impossible (H&H manages to go on regardless!) but -
I have to say, it's utterly vile across here on the East side tonight.

Yes, I agree. Wondering how you are all coping up there. Everything must take ages. I saw something about filling a bottle with salted water and putting that in the water containers. I dare say mine would pull it out and have a fabulous game with it too. And as for the apple, how ridiculous!!! Stay safe all

Hit us again today. Freezing cold and lots of snow. All schools closed though so no work for us today that's a bonus!!!!

It's blizzarding and drifting here and it's managed to block the lane for the first time in about 5 years no running water so that's a real problem for us so I'm going to try the water bottle tip today. The only bonus is I haven't a chance of getting to work. Stay safe everyone x

Our schools have been shut since Tuesday! A definite change in type of snow today though. This is more 'wet' but settling like crazy and also drifting off the fields, went to do Jacob and within 40 mins where my car was parked at home was covered. The amount of snow we already have and is supposed to still be coming we will still have this past Easter! Hunted for a ball but of course the dogs have had them all! Being at the top of 4 hills maybe we should start thinking about being a ski resort! One upside of this freezing weather is mucking out - frozen droppings are so much easier!!!

I have water buckets inside bigger tub trugs and the gap between stuffed with straw.
little show pony was clipped out a couple of weeks back, she isn't at all impressed by the snow blowing in to her stable window!

Hoping you’re all staying safe too 🙁 selfishly pleased to say all our roads are clear here and there’s a smattering but not enough to concern closing schools (also scuppered my chances of a day off work!) horses are warm in just one rug.
Hope it’s over soon and spring arrives x

Lots of places worse off than us I know , but our yard pipes have frozen for only the third time in 20 years so we are having to regularly trudge from the house to the yard with buckets of water to top up the ponies buckets . The wind is whistling but they are all happily mooching about and eating hay from the nets which we have hung around the yard and the small all weather pen , which both offer reasonabe shelter from the wind and snow flurries . The last time the yard pipes froze up was 11 years ago and I can tell you that with absolute confidence because it prompted me to phone my son who was then 19 and had recently bought , and moved into , his own house . Concerned at how he was coping with the cold and whether he could manage the heating bills , I phoned him to offer support if it was needed . " Oh I'm fine. " he declared happily "I've been visiting all the old people in the street ." Oh my god , I thought , a lump rising in my throat . What a fine , considerate young man I've raised . " How wonderful ." I exclaimed . " Yes it is " he agreed enthusiastically " They're always dead pleased to see you , they give you tea and cake and talk for ages , and their houses are SO WARM AND TOASTY !" Ah well ....

We don't have the Beast in the East but the pest in the west! We had about 4 inches of snow and strong breezes which have made it very cold... So glad I don't have to do the bucket round any more
