Hi guys , I have a rising 2 year old home bred mare who is the best horse I have ever shown but lets herself down at lkeast every other class by being soooo spooky and reactive to everything. Ear buds are out unfortrunatly , tried and nearly got killed and wouldnt have got her in the ring she was being so dramatic with not moving from the 1 we did get in!! Have tried most calmers with no luck - Desperatly need some help but do not want to send her away to a 'pro' to be produced. I have a long career in warmbloods and this one is the trickiest!!

A difficult one. Practice usually improves matters. I assume there is nothing the matter with her sight ? Have known of a sight problem in the past. Might be worth a check.

Hi I don't want to offend or jump on your post .. but it states every other class My advise would be at this age - 2 yr oldyou djould be focusing on one or at max 2 classes .. it's still a baby .. sounds like it's trying to tell you it's fed up n getting fidgety ... do it might not be a calmer you require ... just time out

What do you do before you enter the showring? If something was spooky we would walk around the showground until relaxed, also it might be worth picking your shows carefully, avoid busy ones.

Thankyou , def not overshown - she did 65 shows last year and then had 6 months off and we do walk her round for a good 45 mins or if outside just let her handgraze and take in the atmosphere while trying to persuade her that shows are actually nice things to be at!!

Well she is only 3? now. Maybe you just need to let her grow up or if she doesn't change accept that not every horse is happy to be shown, temperament is just has important as conformation.

OP most of those above have as usual have gone for the 'I know better so i'll just be rude' route.
However, your original question was around calmers - I would highly recommend 'Relax Me' it worked for our very sharp warmblood and was recommended to me by an international showjumper who uses it across her whole yard. Don't forget to follow the 'loading' instructions as it is very important. Another good company is equifeast.

I must admit that I read the above post which made me reread the thread and I don't think any of it was rude - most remarks made were as a result of the typo and we all make those from time to time.

I think most of the remarks were made very tongue in cheek and the OP obviously read them in the light hearted manner they were made.

I totally did not take offense at any of the above answers - you have to have a sense of humour around horses!!
