The Royal Highland Show hires in temporary stabling from the company 'Cheval Starbox'. Most of theirs have closed in fronts to the top doors, but they do have a (very) few with an open "V". It just depends as to which set of temporary stables get delivered where and this is not the remit of the Show, it is down to who contracts what from the various Hire Companies. June, July & August being the most busy. The same applies to any shows which hire in temporary Stabling, including the Scottish Horse Show which is also on the RHSASS Showground, but some weeks later. This show also uses the same company. But not the same stables, as they are removed straight after the Royal Highland to go elsewhere for other functions. Folk often think that they remain after the Royal Highland. Not so, they are removed immediately.
To be honest, most horses settle in most Temporary Stables. In truth, it is down to their owners/handlers to remain calm, not stress about the horses (potentially not) settling and, ideally, to have used their brains and prepared the horses in advance.
Let's face it, the best of the best travel by sea and by air to compete - and just have to get on with it.
Indeed, in the past I was privileged to have shown all over the Continent and, had to put up with, at times, some very less than adequate equine accommodation. We coped. We just did - and so did they!!
