I have been looking at photos and nearly everybody is wearing a velvet show hat. I haven’t done flat classes for years and only have a navy working hunter/show jumping hat. Is it acceptable in a flat class at HOYS/RI level? Will it be frowned upon?

I'm sure I saw someone wearing a non velvet hat in qualifiers last year but it wouldn't be my preference. I think these classes are hard enough and you need to be standing out for the right reasons not the wrong ones. **tin hat on ** pardon the pun!! 😂

Should also have added that for HOYS classes your hat & clothing CANNOT have any advertising or team branding on (other than the manufacturer's)

Insomuch that the classes are for the ponies and not the riders, providing that the hat meets the rules then the Judges should not be looking at it, it is the animal they are judging.
