Could anyone suggest a suitable bit for a pony with a tight mouth ( as quoted by my Dentist ).Pony is a sensitive character who leans to the right when riding .He has not had the best start with his training so need it to be correct .

Not sure if this will be helpful - I have a sensitive pony, native type, who still has canine teeth so can’t be ridden in anything big, he’s also tight and sat behind the bit constantly for years. I ride him in a simple loose ring copper jointed bit. The lack of nutcracker action has encouraged him not to push his tongue up against it and lean, and the taste has brought him down to where he should be.
Again may not be the right choice for you, I’m not fond on over bitting in the instance I think it makes the job harder, however I’ve found anything double jointed, especially mouthable metal, has always helped a pony accept the bit. :-)

Must admit I'm a huge fan of peanut bits. I use a sweet iron with copper lozenge on our SP.

Always a double joint for me too. My favourite ever bit, just passed on now as no riding done from here any more, was one I found years and years ago on a second hand stall at a show and was a loose ring, double jointed snaffle, but which had an actual link like a chain link in the middle, rather than the more usual small plate, still with a joint at each end. This enabled the two ends of the bit to slide towards the middle if that makes sense, making it even looser and more floppy. My pet hate are those straight, hard black bits commonly used for colts in IH bridles. My colts were shown in a double jointed snaffle, never remarked on by any judges as being incorrect.

They are really helpful with advice over the phone and don’t charge too much to hire the bits to try.

Definitely try the bit bank or similar for trying them first - otherwise it’s throwing money away :-) I have a few double jointed bits you’re welcome to try (all have been used), if you want. Just let me know regarding size x
