I’ve just bought a beautiful sec a 7yo stallion who is being gelded this week. He has done a lot in hand but only two ridden shows so is a complete novice really, but we’d like to set him up as an open next year to contend HOYS & RI quals. What else can we aim for? I’m 19 and could stick within home produced rules. He will only be ready for novices this year I would think.
Many thanks

Whilst I am probably rather old fashioned in this view, but why not aim for the championship show of the society that you join to do the RIHS & HOYS qualifiers with? This will also have the benefit of having novice classes & restricted classes if you don't qualify for HOYS
If only doing flat classes this may be BSPS &/or PUK for RIHS & these societies will also cover you for HOYS qualifiers plus there is also Olympia with BSPS

Why not think outside the showing box and do some dressage? Unaff events go on through the winter and you will gain valuable flat experience in a more relaxed atmosphere, coupled with getting hopefully helpful comments from the judge as to where you can improve your performance.
