We are looking to be able to get our own pony hopefully, it’s been a long time coming ! I’ve seen a gorgeous three year old pony that is unbroken Prices seem incredibly high at present and this pony is more or less in our budget. I’m thinking that we would send it off to be professionally broken and even perhaps for the first part of the season next year get it professionally produced My question is as my daughter has not done a huge amount of showing and we’ve not had our own pony for a very long time would it be unadvisable to get a young pony ?

Depends on the pony, the support network and your expectations I suppose! We have never been able to afford up and running ponies - but we have had lots of fun doing it, lots of heartache too. The daftest one was buying a four year old for a five year old child, but you know it worked - and he turned out a superb pony who she rode off the lead virtually from day one!! we also have had up and running ponies who just have not worked out at all!! I would say be realistic, be prepared to take time and make sure whoever you send it to to be broken knows what you want from it and is prepared to work with you!
