Hi, are you near a wooded area or water, as this can make it worse for itchy Hoss's. Also check for lice and have you wormed the new one, but does sound like the dreaded Midge is making them itch I use Benzyl Benzoate, and I find it does work, applied to mane, along crest line and just down a couple of inches on the neck, and top of tail down the dock, but you must never apply if there is a cut or broken skin as this will irritate, my lad wears a sweet itch rug too, we have managed to contain it, also we electric tape off anywhere he could rub, sounds cruel but the first year we were here, in paddocks surrounded by woods, and he had never rubbed before, he overnight removed most of his mane and the top of his tail was like fused melted hair, and wash your hands and whatever you do don't rub your eyes, stings like no bodies business, good luck

We use Nex Tex sweetitch cream. Its much kinder, almost like a moisturising hand cream. Its very effective and non-irritent. You can apply it straight onto sore and broken bits too, and it stimulates hair growth.
I know they are expensive, but snuggyhoods sweetitch bodies/hood are amazing. You can get them cheaper on EBAY. Your pony will be immaculate underneath.
Its a distressing problem, but can be managed. Get the rugs and cream on now, before the midges get out in full!
Good luck x
