Please make sure you have clear photos of all your horses, showing face/leg markings and from both sides for coloureds Remember to take pics of foals regularly Be pro-active Always report 'odd' sightings near your stables and get vehicle registrations and report to police--they will be logged If a horse/pony is stolen or goes missing on loan Involve Police--get a Crime Number Local radio Local papers-they often are on line these days Neighbourhood Watch--lots of pairs of eyes and someone may have seen something If you do not have Horsewatch in your area the Police will not know next steps Horsewatch --have you got a branch in your County--contact them see www.tracingequines.co.uk/forum/Get a message up on there You need to fill in a form to get into National Horsewatch system through Farmkey info@farmkey.co.uk Full accurate description and pictures for entry onto www.stolenhorseregister.comA message then circulates to all Horsewatch groups in UK who then spread the word to their members who post info on all Forums they frequent Inform your Passport Agency (put a stop on passport)and NED Speed is of the essence Sadly Horses still disappear I note that some on this Forum have no entry on the Stolen Horse Register So please spread the word Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I will say that news travels very fast once it gets on to the internet and we had lots of help from the local horse community very quickly. I did e mail both of our local Horsewatch co ordinators immediately ( Hampshire Horsewatch) and BOTH of the e mails were bounced back to me as undelivered , address not recognised ! Don't get me started on the police . If they hadn't tried to catch our boy he wouldn't have finished up missing for two days.) A local friend was on the scene very quickly and contacted us straight away. My partner went out ( 3 am) and told them he would have to come back and fetch me and would only be a few minutes. By the time we returned they had gone! No details or contact was taken for us ( so how would they have got in touch had there been an accident ??) We had to dial 999 and go through the system in order to give them a contact no. Then someone rang us back and said ' you will let us know if you find it won't you,' and promptly rang off ( number witheld !)My partner HAD informed them that the field fences had been vandalised deliberately, were they interested?? Of course not. On the plus side, the local radio station were very helpful, as was our local private airfield. They had every pilot that went up today on the lookout for him

I loaned two ponies to a chap as broodmares and he sold them both on. After months, and spending thousands of pounds with ads in the H&H and local papers I traced one of them. I could not prove I was the owner as she was not micro chipped or freeze marked, although I had kept her original passport another had been issued under a different name. I had to buy her back for £1800.00 I still have never found the other. Believe me it does happen. from my experience and hearbreak I have set up a new website so the UK can all pull together to stop this esculating crime. Look out for www.horsepatrol.co.uk should be live monday 1st June 2009

Also if ur horse or pony is microchipped register their number with as many databases as possible. Not all databases share imformation.

I am from North Alabama and my mom let my uncle borrow her horse. He took it back to Arkansas and we recently found out that he sold the horse! We found the lady that bought the horse and she understood the situation and said she just wanted her money back so we agreed. I called her back later to see exactly how much she wanted for him because she couldnt remember what she gave. She then told me that the horse wasnt our anymore that we sold him to my uncle and she bought him so stop calling her number. She said she called my uncle and he said that we were lieing. We have his registration papers still but no loa agreement. My uncle has no bill of sale for the horse. We have baby pictures of the horse (which looks nothing like him except the blaze down his face, Hes an appaloosa) and pictures of the scar that on his back leg from a barbwire incident. Please help me get my moms horse back!! My email is MallorySutton@att.net.
