What is it with lice this year??? Where in the name of all that is holy do they come from? Outer space? My yearling had been itching lately, being the hairy traveller type i thought just moulting or may be sweet itch? Last night picked her in minus half her tail had a lookey in her fur........yep.........lice where in the buggering blazes did they come from Felt rather gulity and have just de loused the lot, if my Fell gets them i shall die. The only new pony i have aquired lately is a Sheltland, and that was six weeks ago, and he was wormed and frontlined before a let him near the others. It must be one of lifes mysteries, the origins of lice Yuck

According to vet there are a lot around this year - and not just hairys, I bought in a TB type just before Xmas from a very nice pony club family, and within a week everything was itching. Urgh. Lots of rugs were boiled, some burnt, and horses wormed initally then powdered every other day. Got the little b*****ds within a week or so. Vet had a theory that some horses have lice lying kind of dormant, and then when they get into a new yard with "new blood" they go mad.... not sure how much I buy that one but it was horrendous for a short time, I was showering and changing boiler suits several times a day as the sight of them made me scratch!
