It would seem that most of the comment are coming from Welsh cob owners ? and it did start the forum! We all know there are very capable owners but you will never stop the rotten apples being in every barrel. Thats sport for all!!!

Sadly there are some people that behave like this. Many years ago the welsh cob people lost their classes at a county show because of this sort of behaviour. I think things are a lot better now, but there will always be someone (not just welsh cob handlers) who need to be more mindful of other people at a show. Sorry but this happend to me at the suffolk show this year!! Waiting with my 2 yo to go into a class some people with their Sec D stally came running round the corner of the horseboxes shaking a bottle with stones in it like a freaking lunatic!! I am normally one for live and let live but this freaked my pony and numerous others near the collecting ring, so I let rip yes I used the f word but in came back to me with bells on! These people stood beside their ring shaking the bottle every time their cob came that side bugger the fact that there were other people in the ring trying to show their ponies too. They did it with a mare and foal as well, then looked surprised when the foal wouldn't load poor little thing. Now my 2yo is pretty chilled having been shown quite alot not even the carriages fazed him or the scurry carts, so he is no wimp! I really though that this practise was being wiped out how wrong am I. I had the joys of experiencing the stones in the bottles at the Suffolk too. I was only grooming so luckily didnt get the job of trying to keep a pony calm with that going on around them, but it did make the collecting areas rather dangerous places to be!!

Would it be any good to make a written complaint to the organisers of these shows? They are usually affiliated to the individual showing societies who surely have some sort of rules about such dangerous behaviour.
Stewards in and around the collecting rings should be given the authority to stamp out this sort of thing and be able to warn-off anyone at the ringside who is acting in a way which is likely to cause danger to others. Judges must see this going on and are in the best position to say something directly to the handler.
Really, it all boils down to what is insited upon in our exhibits, but sadly not always found in the exhibitor - MANNERS.

My C was taught to show like this, I took her to a county show (her first one) and my mum put the halter on upside down so i had zero control (i was in a worker) but the judges love it, so save all the trotting out for the judge!

we had an incident at the show yesterday! parked next to another lorry, we have a side loading ramp, pony brought off lorry to be tacked up and some stupid bleep walks through with a huge horse, turns it round and wham...it double barrels my pony in the back legs!!!!! there was hardly any space for ponies to turn round safely let alone that thing...luckily he was ok, god knows how, it had studs in too...poor little mite, could've flattened her...then has a go at me saying her horse never kicks!!! der...does it have legs and hooves?? yes ? then presume that it kicks and take cautions at all times...what does common sense cost? as far as i am concerned ALL horses and ponies kick, is much safer to think that. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr also to add, my daughter was tacking him up and couldve received that kick instead of the pony...doesnt bare thinking about does it?

I sent an email to the WPCS and got a reply stating that they do not agree with the stone shaking etc and giving me details of what to do if I see it - going to the show organisers etc. If anyone would like a copy to print out and have with them at shows please pm and me and I will forward it to you.
