We are currnetly looking into insuring our 2 spaniels, and had a very good quote from Tescos. But I read in one of the treads about horse insurance that apparently they can be as bad as E&L!!! Who is good, and not too expensive to insure with?

NFU is really good and cheap - costs me about £80 year for full cover...and no hasstle.

Pet Plan All The Way theyre fab, Over 2 years with my JR they paid claim after claim I paid a £75 Excess for each year, but that was it they settled directly to my vets so I didnt have to make any other payments, my vets said that this was one of the only insurance companies they would do this with as they are so reliable. So is worth chatting to your vets to see which ins companies they find the best to deal with! Also after a whole year of claiming I expected my premium to increase drastically. I think it went up about 75p a month!

Pet Plan ,fantastic my JR has addisons and is covered for life, a lot of companies are only for 1 year, check small print and ask your vet. You tend to get what you pay for. She had it 7yrs now they pay up no probs for blood tests every 3 months and all medication. Hope this helps.

We have been with Sainsburys for approx 5 years now for our 2 minature schnautzers fees started at under £10 each per month and I have just had the renewal for this year one is £20 the other £30 per month-I am not going to renew this year as I feel that it is too much. I would not mind but we have only claimed on one policy over the years and that only amounted to £90.

PETPLAN!! i am a vet nurse and cannot stress this enough!! really dont want to bore you witht the ins and outs of it but trust me it is the best by far. it may be slightly more expensive but you only get what you pay for and they are one of a few who do lifelong cover. marks and spencers do lifelong too but will bump your premiums up if you claim so they are not always what they seem. PETPLAN PETPLAN PETPLAN!! xxx

and beware of the cheap ones, they are cheap for a reason.....they are rubbish!! they may seem like the best option but you can be sure you will end up paying far more in the long run when they put exclusions on your policy when you come to renew it and you end up forking out for that condition for the rest of the animals life.
im not sure which area you live in but for south west area you are looking at about £20 - £25 pounds per dog with petplan, cross breeds are slightly less at about £17. i know it seems like a lot compared to these less than £10 offers but you do only get what you pay for.

I have to admit, Millie doesn't have insurance, she does however have her own bank account, which has a direct debit going into it every month, to cover any vet bills that may occur. That way I don't have to worry about what the insurance company will or won't pay out for, and if the money isn't needed then it's in my pocket and not the insurance company's.
I will admit it's a risk, as obviously the money builds up over time, so you have to know that you could cover a big vet bill in the early years if needs be.

PET PLAN - all the way quick to pay
read small print for conditions like if your dog has heart condition from 1 year old will your company pay out forever or just one year then its excluded ! that kind of thing you might pay more with petplan but they are good

NFU told me I had to have my house insured with them to insure pets. Is that right? I do have my horses with them.

Marks and Spencers are great at paying out... bit more expensive than some though... petplan also...
beware the ones that say only a certain amount per incident as if it carries on and on like my little girl with diabetes, you will soon be paying...
