Last two nights have been up clearing up the dog mats, in my untility room - from "runny poo" ....... She does have a delicate tummy and is only fed BURNS. She is fine in herself. Not given her anything else to eat, so must have picked up something. Any suggestions? Natural remedies?

My dog picked up a tummy bug a couple of weeks ago, vets advice was to starve her for 24 hours then re-introduce food gradually, i.e. half a handful every few hours, rather than one big meal. Hope doggy feels better soon.

Oooh they love tack oil dont they! Naughty naughty!
Taking Penny to the vets, as not only upset tummy, but some nasty scabby things on nose, which I have seen before and was mange, which had got into little cut. We are surrounded by foxes here. One simple drop on, and cleared it all up.
With the two problems together, maybe she needs an antibiotic that could sort both out?

lovepink starve your dog for 24hrs then feed small amounts of boiled rice and chicken instead of your normal food and then gradually put them back on the burnns, you could also give pro-kolin paste (get it over the counter from vets) it is a pro biotic and pre biotic which helps bind the food and get the guts working properly.

hi i have two huskys who always get sensitive stomachs, they are fed on beta sensitive which seems to control it but if they start getting bad stomachs then i give them a pot of actimel each, they love it and it s pro biotic so sorts them out in no time sarah x

It did work for us (the starvation thing), but you have to be quite hard hearted when they're begging and their little hungry tummies are rumbling. Mine was passing clear mucus too, I was told her guts were inflamed and they needed to have a complete rest to give the inflammation chance to calm down.

A vet told me a few years ago that every now and then, perhps once a month you should starve your dog for a day or 2 as its good for their guts and how dogs would eat naturally in the wild...never was sure my bichon would live in the wild, or go without food for that matter!!

Uhg....... 4th morning running! I am sick of it now! Think she will have to stop in the horse barn tonight! Vet gave me a sample thing to do, but couldnt face it, as too desperate to clear up. The smell goes right through the house!

I was told by vet if the 24hr starving didn't do the trick to take her back for antibiotic injection.

Had the same trouble with my last dog who past away last year! Agree starve for 24hrs then you can give them boiled rice, chicken, scrambled eggs (no milk) you can use natural yogurt. Gradually introduce normal food if it's goes back to being runny I would change the type of food you give to your dog. Good luck xx

All good advice, normally, but this dog is HIGHLY ALLERGIC to most food, including chicken and rice.
We nearly lost her as from puppy to 8 months old, she was a hat rack, no hair and constant runny tummy. Vets didnt know what else to try. She had the lot. Antibiotics, prescription diets, homemade diets, probiotics everything. £1500 later....... emaciated puppy.
We put her on BURNS as a last resort. She was better within 24hours! I darnt try her on any other food, as it will make things worse......?!?!?

Just a thought, has she been spayed?
My brother has a c0cker spaniel with a really dicey tummy - upsets were regular, was fed nothing but chicken and rice, nothing seems to help, however as a last resort vet advised to have her spayed and now she is very much improved, although they still have to be careful what she is fed, no scraps/treats etc.

Not sure of the reasoning behind it, but it has def worked for them, might be worth a chat with your vet?

I feel your frustration, my dog that past away last year had really bad skin allergies so bad he scratched till he bleed and a sensitive tummy!! I would be up the Royal Vet College once a month, he was on everything steroids, piriton the lot. The steriods would make him really drowsey and he would often wet himself poor thing, so I know what you are going through xx Ironically he did not die from his illnesses. He got out one day and stood on the railway tracks he was only a year old RIP Buster xxx

RIP Buster xxxxx 5th morning. Got them in at 10pm, and got up at 4am to let them out. Pile of poo and a wee! Its like she has gone back to being a puppy! Slightly less runny, so maybe we on the end of it now?

You might have to keep her in, just to make sure you know exactly what she's eating. Mine was a nightmare because we were on holiday with the kids at the time, so of course walking along the sea front is littered with dropped chips, sweets, ice cream etc., dog is starving anyway, and I'm getting funny looks when I'm shouting 'NO! LEAVE IT!' every 3 seconds!

ours has an addiction for hifi lite!! it makes her sick but she keeps on eating it, she waits for the ponies to drop some over the door, or me to spill it while making feeds etc, always shouting NO LEAVE IT!! and then she skulks off and eats their poo instead!!!

Why is it that dogs eat horse Poo? Vile - especially when they come and give you a big kiss afterwards!
She is def sleeping in the horse barn tonight, until she stops this problem. I had been putting newspaper down, but I think she might think that means its OK to do it!
She is well and lively in herself, so I am not concerned enough to take her back to vets just yet.
