It did take Millie about a week to get back to normal - although she was never ill in herself, just the runny poos, but still lively and wanting to play.

Same as Penny, she is fine in herself. Now have some anti-biotics, so lets hope they do the trick! Not sure the horses like their barn being used as a toilet .........LOL

Hi. I know its a bit graffic but if your dogs poo contains mucus and is a bit bloody they will deffo need a course of metronidazole. I personally hate the vets because they are theiving bandits so I have ordered mine online which costs about 30.00. for 100. you can give your dog peptobismol for something less severe which can be bought for less than a 5.00 form any chemist. My dog did have a nasty bowel infection and needed a long course which lasted for 10 days 2 tabs a day and he is now better.

I personally hate the vets because they are theiving bandits so I have ordered mine online which costs about 30.00. for 100. you can give your dog peptobismol for something less severe which can be bought for less than a 5.00 form any chemist. My dog did have a nasty bowel infection and needed a long course which lasted for 10 days 2 tabs a day and he is now better. you do not want to be prescribing medication for your animals if they have blood or mucous in their faeces. this can be seen in a number of different conditions and without a veterinary examination you could actually be doing more harm. did you know that metronidazole can in some cases cause central nervous system side effects. this is why you should always consult your vet first as you may think you know what you are doing but chances are you dont. you may want to self prescribe but please do not be irresponsible by misleading others about how to deal with their pets medical conditions. also, putting dosing for your animal can cause others to use this dose too which could cause serious problems seeings as dose is affected by weight. whats to say your dog isnt a large breed, and a naive yorkie owner reads this and thinks she needs to give that dose too?! and i can completely understand why you feel vets rip you off, i think the prices where i work are unbelievable but you have to understand they know what they are on about and it is much safer to consult them rather than trying to save money and guessing what you think is right. for example, a dog was lame so the owners gave it ibuprofen insead of bringing it to the vets, a month of intensive nursing later and the dog was put to sleep. point made.
