I am changing my horse lorry this year and Lehel are one of the contenders! Does anyone have one or know of anyone who owns one to give me some feeback please. I am interested in the 7.5t non-HGV. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

we have been told not to touch them! To SP - why have you been told not to touch them? A friend of mine has been looking at Lehel as well, they seem to be much better prices and really well made compared to similar manufacturers. Has anyone else had a bad experience with Lehel?

When we were looking we were told not to touch them because they were made in what was the old eastern block. The labour there is very cheap and whilst they look very zoomy the build quality does nto stand the test of time. Also if things to go wrong it is not so easy to get it put right as it would be with a UK based manufacturer. Buy and (eat!) British that what I say.

Someone I know has got a Lehel on a brand new Scania, it looks very nice, all leather, pop-out side etc, I had a look in the back which also looked very nice, but my only doubt really was about the robustness of the divisions, they did not look like they would take a lot of hammer. Also the ramp seemed a little narrow as the back uprights curve round and steal quite a few inches on either side, I could'nt remember clearly, but the person I was with at the time seemed to think it did not have any gates on either, which left the ramp open at the highest point, not good if you have something that doe'snt load up the ramp too well and is inclined to veer about.

Mmmmm, mixed feedback. I would like to hear from someone who actually owns/owned one to know what they think of them. What is known to be a GREAT horsebox with all mod cons?

A friend of mine has one on a DAF 45,drives brilliantly. looks stunning, my only concern it is supposed to be 3 horse, but really only room enough for 2 decent size horses. Not sure if they are all the same dimensions though.
I must say though, my priority is making sure it is built on a decent chassis with comfortable, safe area for horses. I would speak to someone like Fetherston before making a decision...

Haven't patchetts got two brand spanking new ones? They look extremely smart but I could only dream of one that nice.

We looked at them at ponies UK and found it very interesting that although initially they look lovely and shiney if you look clocely round the windows etc there is overspray everywhere - well there was on the demo ones anyway - not a very good advert if you ask me.
Also the salesman was very cagey about the 7.5t one, he wouldn't commit to saying it was a 3 horse as they obviously weigh far too much to carry 3 horses.

dont get me wrong............. the last one I used was brand new... and gorgeous, But the ramp was a bit narrow, the external kick boards were light weight........ and too many steps and levels within the living Extra step into, the hallway, then into the living, then raised seating area..... not a party bus I have a Whittaker, fab finish, extra fab horse area............ and half the trip hazzards when having a few visitors

We looked at them and they were overweight to carry 3! We have a Solitaire Horsebox now and love it! They have a great 03 plate one on Horsequest now.....

The weight issue will not be a problem for me as we only carry two lead reins - but I would have thought that any 7.5 tonne lorry would be overweight carrying three horses, tack, feed etc?

No, some do have a good payload although the majority will be skating on thin ice. Our 7.5t only had 1.3t which isn't very much at all.

northern star - I would agree. I think most manufacturers now are selling them as"stalled for 3" but unless (like you) you carry just tiny ponies you are unlikely to be under the weight limit with three horses on board, especially if you have full living.

Our three horse lorry (the ones we build ourselves) weigh 5104k with everything in epxcept the horses. Obviously it wouldn't carry three Shires but it would carry three average 16hh horses for example. I agree that full livings are the real problem. In fact it is the water tanks which are the worst problem. We do a 'day' living with sink, cooker, cpuboards etc and loo compartment and to be frank this is really enough for most people.I people want a full living then we suggest they have a ten ton at least

There is a nice looking 12 t V reg MAN for sale on HorseQuest. When we were looking for this weight there were only one or 2 for sale in the whole country! Scarce as hen's teeth on the 2nd hand market.
Weight is a real issue if you have anything more than a very basic living as Fetherston says....maybe it is time to take the plunge for some and do the HGV test (or LGV as it is known as these days). It is not as hard as you might think and these lorries are really nice to drive!

Another thing I was told was that you have to pay to go on M25 on a lorry older than 2001? Due to emissions, is this right?

You can drive around the M25 and be ok, it is when you get iside it and into the London Boroughs it will get difficult with emissions.
