Our lovely little kitten is very poorly. My darling (sarcastic!) three year old son got hold of some anti-bacterial spray and decided to give the kitten spiky hair. Took ages to get out of him what he had actually used. feel totally inadequate as a parent and a pet owner at present. Kitten is very ill on IV fluids at present at the vets. They may possibly let him home this evening if he is eating and drinking as his mouth is all ulcerated. Although they are still not sure if he will survive and if he does he may well have permanent lung damage. Although we ahve not had him long I have become very attached to him as he is such a character. All cat owners please be aware how dangerous some of these sprays can be to cats, even small amounts.

Oh God, poor you! You musnt beat yourself up about this. 3 year old little boys are total MONSTERS..... I know I have had 2. As careful as you can be, they get into things they shouldnt. I am just so sorry that your poor kitten was the victim. Fingers crossed he will surprise you all and make a full recovery? ? Let us know? xxx

Your son isn't old enough to realise the consequences of his actions. He wouldn't have thought for a minute that he would have hurt the kitten. Just one of those things.
Hope your kitty pulls through, sending hugs x x x

I am so sorry to hear that, I have Italian greyhounds, they are probably the size of a small cat. I was walking on the meadows near my home and when I came home one of them came staggering into the lounge like a drunk, totally unable to control her body and joints. I wisked her to the vets who said she had come into contact with some phosnagenic sprays which they use for killing weeds. There is no treatment and they affect the central nervous system. She was terrible by night time. They said she would either die or pull through within the next 48 hous. My son Morgan is a grand Master Reiki healer and he took her upstairs and did Reiki on her. She fell into a deep sleep for 5 hours and then woke up fine. Just a suggestion.

Kitten was allowed to come home last night, yeh! Was so worried about him. He is still not quite right though. Has nasty cough and is still not really eating and drinking brilliantly as he has ulcers in in mouth. Can't believe how easy it is to get attached to these animals! Only had him two weeks but it has to be said he is quite a character and I have had lots of cats. OH had banned our three year old from having birthday party now! part of me really does agree with you milliesmum ,I don't think he relaised what the liquid was as it was clear he could have easily thought it was just water. He did not mean to hurt the kitten, only two seconds ago he was cuddling it saying I love you Twinkles. Three year olds! Gadabout glad your dog was ok , poor thing!

VERY pleased he is home and recovering! You MUST forgive your little boy and let him have his party. Just move all chemicals out of reach!

I agree, your little boy just thought he was having some fun with kitty, no way did he intend to hurt him. Yes sit him down and explain why the kitten is so poorly, but I don't think it's fair to cancel his party. You could perhaps let him do some little jobs for grandma or another relative, perhaps some washing up or dusting, to earn some money towards the vet bill - it's not the money, it's more him learning that it cost money to make the kitten better. He might only earn a few pence, but he would be learning a lesson
Def recommend keeping all cleaning stuff in a cupboard with a child lock!

Kitten went back to vets yesterday, not out of the woods yet, still has some fluid on his lungs may have to have X-ray. More money, sorry that sounds horrid, doesn't it but have just finished work. Have worked 24 out of the past 48 hours a bit frazzled now. wondering how we are going to pay these vet bills! Yes, I do want our little boy to have his party I was looking forward to it too (was going to be at Zoo that is 10 mins away from our house) but there will be NO persuading his dad. He has spoken! I'm sure you all know how men can be, sometimes they can be more stubborn than any woman.

Kitten is much brighter, thank you for asking heathers. Is playing more like a tiny Kitten should. Has upset tummy now though just to add to his problems, not sure if that is due to what happened or whether he has those dreaded things tha live in thier tummy. (begins with W) Sorry can't say the word, makes me feel sick. As a nurse i am not squeamish at all wih humans but I am totally hopeless with animals!
