Can anyone give me some advice. I have a 3 year old woth a few warts on his nose but looks like there are more getting ready to sprout, all in the same area.
Do I just leave them and see if they go on their own or is there anything I can use to stop them without leaving scarring?
If they will go on their own as my vet manual seems to suggest then I am not concerned otherwise, should I see my Vet (dont forget there is a £70 call out fee before we start)!!
Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Alot of yougsters get these warts, they are known as milk warts. In actual fact they are a virus which they pick up. Some get them in their ears! They come spontaniously and go the same. Take about 6 months. The other warts are more spasmodic and you would need your vet. Do not panic just yet. As a judge I would not bother about them in the ring.

thanks for your comments, I am quite prepared to leave them alone but there are two bigish ones and then lots of little white spots that have come up over the last week. They are not bothering him, just me!

Commonly known as " grass warts" - they will disappear and cause no problems. Our vet said that they are commonly seen in under 4 year olds and are thought to be the result of the animals immune system not being 100% - some ponies will also show some other kind of "very slight problem" ie - not tolerating haylage/certain feeds etc - but this is still under investigation and not scientifically proven yet - try not to worry

You could buy some thuja and see if that helps them clear up more quickly.

My 4yr old show pony got them just after hoys, i left them for a while then more started to appear i spoke to my vet who told me to get some wartner from the pharmasy although the horse version is a slightly different strain it is still the same virus, so i did this freezing them once a day and they were all gone in about 7-10 days and it much cheaper than buying an equine product was about £5 i think and really works i would do it now before they spread anyfurther because the can spred quit quick it really works straight away, hope that helps x

we had a hack yearling that was pickled with warts she had over 60 they cleared up in les than a week when we put her on a course of liquid acyclovir its the stuff you take for shingles and the active ingreadient in zovirax its an anti viral that you can get on prescription from your local chemist , its a special order product and not licnced for use in horses but worked wonders you have to give it oraly 5mg/5ml 5 times a day for 5 days by day 4 she only had 6 warts left and by day ten all had gone i was lucky my vet was willing to try it as an experiment and wrote me a prescription we had tried creams , thuja oil and many other things we were going to try freezing but the animal was a hack yearling and we were concered about scaring .
it did cost about £50 at the time that was 4 years ago

Thanks for that, I've not had chance to try anything as yet but the ones that ooked like sprouting now have but no more seem to be appearing. I too am worried about scarring especially as he has so many on his nostrils!
I may give my vet a ring and see if he'll do it without m calling him out? doubt it though, they always see cash signs in front of their eyes when I ring up!

Try Germoline from the chemist, it's dead cheap and doesn't bother them. Vet told me about this year's ago. I have also used this with confirmed sarcoids and they have all disappeared!! Good luck!
