I saw my friend, who is also an equine physio yesterday, who kindly looked at Violets back for me. She gave her a good stretch and massage, as she said it can help with the reproductive organs, if everything is loose and not locked.
I am going to borrow my friends equilbrium massage pad, all next week, as she is due to come in season again. Maybe the vibrations will get her in the mood........!

A good repro vet should be able to AI her at your place. TBH if the stallion is only available frozen I would start again next year, or change to one that does chilled.
My 18yo mare was scanned on the 15th of july, given PG on the 17th, scanned again 20th, 21st and given ovuplant, 22nd scanned and insemintated and scanned agian on 23rd to make sure she'd ovulated and will have a scan on the 7th of August to see if she's in foal. All done by a wonderful repro vet in a field shelter with no electricity using chilled semen, so it is possible and given the choice i would always AI at home rather than Stud!

I am new to this and have learnt the hard way, that its not all straight sailing. I Have made bad choices, only based on what other people advised me, was the way to go. At least next year, I will have a more realistic idea of what will work, for my own SENSITIVE mare. Fingers crossed for your mare though

I was going to suggest using chilled at home, or my vets AI in the hospital itself if she would be happy with that rather than going to a stud strange to her - I took a mare and foal down there yesterday.
Mine have ovuplant and are then inseminated twice at specific timings, can't remember what they are, as this has been shown to give a higher conception rate.
zizz - I'm fascinated at how your vet manages to scan with no electricity!

they have a battery pack ultrasound that they carry round with them. When fully charged they get about three hours worth of use from it the only downside is its quite heavy!

Well you are going to be an expert soon and will be passing on advice to all with regard to the trials and tribulations of breeding. You are learning the hard way though! Fingers crossed for you.

I dont think I will ever be classed as an expert ;D Its all gone pear shaped this year and I think its too late in the year to try another strategy. I did speak to my farrier who has welsh stallions about natural covering. He said that knowing Violet as we both do, she wouldnt cope at all. He said she would need to be stabled near to one, for a few weeks, till she was less frightened, then gradually allowed closer and closer, but over a long time, so that she didnt get scared off. At this time of year, there is no time for such a long process, so am going to wait till the spring. She is having one more go with the AI process, next week but staying at home for it. I just wish the sun would come out, which might keep her in the mood! Its getting her to release the egg thats the problem, even with EVERY drug that everyone has mentioned, she doesnt release. Not even getting to the insemination bit!

Violet just had her final jab this year, to induce season. She should be in season by fri. I only have frozen semen paid for, so am now wondering if its possible to find some fresh semen (not expensive) to use, as a last ditch attempt this year?
How do you go about buying it? What I mean is, if its not local, how does it get to you? Do they post it? Sorry if you all think I am dim? I have never done this before!
Probably wont be able to sort this out in time, so will have to stick to the frozen, but if anyone can help, please let me know?

I don't know if I could help or not. I have a very nice TB stallion (I know, I am biased!) who can provide chilled semen which is exceptionally fertile and travels well (Tessa Clark of West Kington told me last year it was the best quality chilled semen they had recieved all year). We collect at an AI centre locally where it is prepared and packed and then posted guaranteed next day delivery by Royal Mail in a polystyrene box with a couple of freezer pack thingies. If you are interested have a wee look at my website www.freewebs.com/puddledubI don't even know what type/breed your mare is and what you are looking to breed, but he is a race winner, Champion in the showring and a graded Sporthorse Stallion. He has covered and produced lovely stock from a 13hh WHP mare to a 17hh Percheron (youngster got top conformation marks at HOYS in cob class last year) and all sorts of TBs, eventers, warmbloods etc inbetween too. .. but from your point of view his biggest assett is his fertility, which is fairly irrelevant if your mare doesn't ovulate, but a HUGE help if she does Feel free to phone me for a chat if you are interested - contact details on the website

Thanks, he is lovely and def would consider him. Violet is 16 hh KWPN dressage horse, described as exceptionally talented by judges, but retired early due to accident in field. I have paid for T Moviestar semen, which is now only availalbe frozen, but think she would equally produce well from a TB or coloured/ Sport horse type.

After much consideration, plus hubby - not wanting to spend anymore money - decided to stick with the frozen semen we have, as the chances are she wont ovulate anyway, so not worth rowing with hubby, for something that 99% wont happen.
Took her to be scanned today. She is in season and again has follickles coming. The sun is finally shining, so thats positive too. Bring her back monday they say, which I know means bring her back monday, and if all OK and she does ovulate - AI Tues.
Problem is we are going on hols 6am Tues morning!
Ahhhhgggggg!
Cant leave her at the stud as she will switch off again, so now have to find someone else to take her to stud. Not impossible, but tricky as our driveway is on a really steep hill and you have to pull out on a tight bend, onto a busy road. Most people I know, who drive lorries/trailers have said they wouldnt even try it!
I am pulling my hair out stressing about this, wondering why things always happen either just before of during Holidays! No wonder I never want to go away.........
