I know a lot of vets are adamant that horses can't get it but my friend's horse had it earlier this year so I'll ask her what the vet prescribed.

yep we had a big sports horse colt who got it he had grumbleing colic for a couple of weeks before we found out what it was .
you need to gather a fresh dung sample and look for tiny bright yellow eggs and i mean bright yellow .
i can ask the vet the name of the wormer if you need it just email me at drenrowstud@aol.com
treatment is easy we used cow wormer supplied by the vet cost £6.42 all the tests and blood work and samples plus colic treetment close to 400 .
if you horse or pony has access to reeds or rushes it could well be liver fluke its eggs are carries by a water snail that likes marshy moor ground it climbs the reads and inadvertantly leaves eggs behind on the reeds and rushes .
now we dont bother calling the vet we have had 2 now with liver fluke we just look for the eggs and give them the cow wormer .
e also gave a course of liver supplement from the vets folloed by milk thistle poder in his feed for several eeks till his liver function as back to normal levels
hes no fine and out eventing he made a full recovery
