You may recall that I managed to trap all, or so we thought, of the feral cats and kittens at the end of last year and get them spayed, rehomed etc. One of them, Trouble, we hand reared and kept and another has gradually become tame and moved in to the house as well.
A while back we became aware of another cat and then a second one, unusually this time a tabby. The second one causes chaos at times as it tries to come in the cat flap in the night but is quickly seen off by Trouble who already thinks that the other tame one is a trespasser!!
I've taken to feeding the feral ones in an empty stable and this morning it has become clear that one has had kittens recently. I foresee a winter of trapping and neutering again when enough time has passed for the kittens to be weanable and when I can get hold of the traps from the CPL.

I'm afraid we are in Cornwall!! If she is still here she will be going to Fayre Oaks with us, if that helps.

Aw she is beautiful but sadly even Fayre Oaks would be too far, it's for a non-horsey friend who is retired and has just lost one of her cats, leaving the one remaining cat feeling lonely and very clingy!

Looks like she's going to stay!!! She's litter trained already, within a matter of days. Oh well, that's another year when we have to take a kitten to Fayre Oaks with us!!

I've just been up to the yard to feed mummy cat, a bit later than normal and found two more balls of fluff. One dashed off with mummy cat and the other has taken refuge in the barn. Looks like Toffee has family, one tabby and one black!!

Can't get close enough yet for pictures. I went back up to see if the one in the barn had come out again, as I'd left the door open. Both kittens were lying in the sun, drying out after the wet night we've had but ran as soon as I appeared. The tabby went back into the barn but the other went around the back of the stables. It does seem as though mummy cat has done her usual and brought them to me to look after!!
I'd already put a call in last week to CPL to catch mummy to neuter, so now there are a few more for them to do, once we can trap them. Hopefully I can get the kitten semi tamed like last year and find them a new home.

on the edge of dartmoor we started out with 2 feral cats thanks to the cpl. Then along came another 2 kittens from then, all neutered wormed but VERY wild. Oh dear, they are now all very friendly and very well fed, dont bother to wander off just live in their stable very happily waiting for the next meal courtesy of mum. Low and behold last week, i turned up to see a teeny black very fluffy kitten curled up with them, aparently here to stay.....must say 'it' is just adorable....just wondering what will be along next!

Finally got a photo of one of the kittens, the other wasn't playing ball at all this morning. This one seems to be slightly less timid.

I have given you a karma as I commend the work you do. I wish more people would see the importance of neutering. You are a star!
p.s I have a feral cat and she is a real sweetie - very friendly with me and oh but scared of everyone else. I wish more people would consider giving them homes...GO ON YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO FOLKS.

At the moment I need all the help I can get. I took the latest feral kitten to the vets yesterday and it cost me £42. Today one of the other ones has developed a very nasty sore which doesn't look good. I've put Aloe Vera on it for the moment but I can see another vets visit on the cards. I'm happy to take them to get them treated but wish that I could find a vets that would waive the consultation fee, or at least reduce it for me. I don't expect them to cover the costs for medication but feel they could help out with the fee. Any ideas?

Perhaps you could write an article and have pics in the local newspaper and any other relevant publication highlighting the problems caused by not neurering and ferral cats. Ask a local vet to offer you a reduced fee to neuter in return for inclusion in the article?

We get the spaying/neutering done free by the CPL which is great. I think they might possibly help with sick feral cats but as they are so busy all the time they can't come very often hence sick ones can't wait until then to be treated.
My oldest ex-feral (now about 18 months old) has suddenly decided to start using the litter tray we have indoors for the hand reared kitten instead of going outdoor like she always has done previously!! Normally, the hand reared ones eventually learn to go outdoors and the litter tray can be done away with eventually!!

Out of my 5 cats it is my feral who always uses the litter tray and has never (in 5yrs) had an accident. She is a clever little soul.
