I am not moaning just feel a bit sad and sorry for myself (and my daughter) and had to get it off my chest. we are soooo struggling to find the right pony on loan. I know so many people are against loaning. I know it is out there somewhere! I know also I am incredibly fussy and should learn to accept that to get a HOYS LR on loan is stuff of dreams but still feel very deflated. the 2009 season has passed us by and we have only been to two shows! feel like a teenager who has the prom dress but no date! friends have said don't stress and take your time but patience has never been my virtue perhaps that is why I have made the mistakes I have so far. Young pony for a start with a young very novice child, was I mad! Finding something that will suit my daughter and that I like too is impossible. From the adverts on here I can see that many other people are also struggling to find these little saints. If I had the money that is what I would do I reckon, buy and sell (and loan/lease!) top class quality LR/FR ponies that are suitable for tiny tots. I reckon I would make a fortune! I know from some of the lead rein ponies I have seen in the ring that you can get a beauty that is also safe for a small child, or am i wrong?! I suppose you don't always see what goes on behind the scenes you hear stories of ponies being lunged for hours and ridden in by adults. After 20 years out of showing I was sooo looking forward to getting out there with my precious little girl, it has all gone sooo wrong! Oh well must stop feeling sorry for myself (and get a grip I can hear you all saying!)

I had my first horse on loan for 2yrs, she was the horse of a lifetime, she got me into my first evening performances and we won classes at PUK Champs and did really well at BSPS Champs and then her owner (who was too heavy for her) on a Sunday evening decided she was picking her up the next day to put her in foal!!!!!!!!!! My mum had paid all our entry fees at BSPS and PUK. I was absolutely distraught (still get sad about her now). I had to sell my 143 shp to put that towards a new horse and we managed to scrape money together, we travelled the M6 every weekend and spent hours searching on Horsequest/Horsemart/Horsedeals and asking everyone we knew if they had anything available. Anyway, we ended up with something that was a complete and utter nightmare and all because I was rushing into wanting a new horse! I missed 4 seasons and lost a lot of confidence!!!!! I won't tell you all the gorey details as I'll be here til tomorrow! Moral of the story is...be patient! The right one will find you in it's own time trust me!!!

Perfect LR and FR ponies do exist and they are saints. You are more likely to get one from word of mouth, because people love these ponies SO MUCH, they dont want to sell them, just want the best home possible for them.
I did ring once about one and the owner wanted £3000 per year to lease hers! I nearly fell off my stool LOL
I hope you find one soon xxx

I feel so wicked now. Have read about joanne (who's name I vaguely know but I don't think I knew her) who recently died. My thoughts go to her family. My plight is nothing compared to what she or her family went through and i am sure are still going through. I am so sorry for moaning! Overatheknee I know I should have patience but we are just sooo keen. isabel's riding is coming along with the help of a friends Shetland and riding lessons. We had a lesson together the other day seeing mummy do rising trot helped a bit i think. We will plod on!

In the meantime .............. see if you can borrow/loan a local-level LR/FR to go on with. At least that way you'll still be showing on Sundays and your daughter will be improving her riding and gaining expereience in the ring.
This has happened to me time and time again - 'making do' with a lovable ordinary pony and then suddenly, out of the blue, comes an offer of a top-class animal which is looking for another family to whom it can pass on it's experience.
Don't get despondent, something will turn up, I promise!!!

Lovepink is right, these ponies rarely come on the open market, they are sold before current jockey has outgrown and some even have a short waiting list! They are there to be found and it will find you. Have you considered chatting with a few studs seeing if they have anything to lease? Nantcol Lady Penelope i believe was leased from the stud, she won the RIHS and seems a super pony, feel free to correct me if i am wrong about her being leased directly from her breeder!

Is it lead rein you want not FR. I'm sorry for myself as well. Got a 6yr old sec B prof broken last Oct went to a show after 6 wks 4th in open PUK qual and behaved perfectly. Brought her home and turned her out. Niece came home from uni in Dec tacked her up and rode her in school and behaved perfectly. Turned out again lady phoned in June wanting to come and try her - told her what little she'd done and would try get someone to ride her before she came(not ridden for 5 months!) took her on Friday to Learning to Listen(Monty Roberts trainer) who long reined her round obstacle course under washing lines over bridges etc etc and then young jockey hacked her back to me. Lady came Sat am 12 yr old rode her - foot perfect. Jumped her(never done it before) - foot perfect. 8yr old gets on and a bit wobbly - child wobbles pony slows down - perfect! Off they go " lovely pony - best we've seen blah blah blah!" 2 wks later no contact although they knew pony booked to go back for schooling - I phoned and said presume as no contact don't want her & they said wanted something done more! They knew exactly how much she had done BEFORE they came but really she excelled herself and went like a schoolmaster, so genuine! Found out after they have bought a really dodgy just gelded 6 yr old unbroken. My pony is 100% honest & genuine. Prof broken and by a HOYS qual stallion out of dam of an international JA(plus loads of other performance ponies) and full siser to HOYS qual open pony. have her advertised at reasonable money but everyone is either suspicious(but yes she really is that genuine) or want her virtually giving - where are all the genuine buyers?
Sorry for rant but disillusoned

Yes agree with you kayjayem but don't give up hope! We didn't exactly have a queue of potential buyers given the credit crunch and didn't seem to be a huge market for 14hh show ponies even though ours was veratile and could turn her hoof to jumping and dressage too. It was horrible watching the people who did come criticise our little darling who was obviously perfect to us in possible everyway!! However, one lovely family did turn up and pony and little girl fell in love instantly and we knew that we had found the perfect home. Although no one can look after our pony as well as us, they are doing a pretty good job (lol) and keep us updated on their progress. Then began the long arduous task of buying next pony and we became one of those nuisance potential buyers .......... now the proud owners of 3yr old connemara who arrived three weeks ago.
Don't give up - I'm sure that the right people wll come your way x

Probably a long shot but.......................... We have a beautiful Section A Mare. Broke for lead rein and is terrific at her job! 6 yrs old. 'Pendock Partygirl'. She is 1150% safe and quiet. We are looking for a very, very good home for her but would prefer to sell rather than loan. Our jockey has lost interest and she has been stuck out in the field. She is FAR too good to remain there and we have started putting out feelers rather than advertise and have all the time-wasters at our door. She is Grey with black legs and very striking! Lovely dapples at the minute! She will box, travel, have her feet done, etc: all with no bother at all. I am on crutches hobbling about and can still handle and lead her! We are extremely confident to guarantee her and know that ANY child would enjoy her in perfect safety. She has the breeding and looks to excel in any ring! We put all our efforts into getting her competing only for the bloody child to grow over two foot in one year and decide she doesn't want to do it anymore!! If interested.please email coedensisters@yahoo.com

I think that the problem is that you are looking for a ready made HOYS pony and so are a lot of other people who are willing to spend a lot of money on getting their little princess to HOYS.
The top ponies tend to be sold on rather than loaned (possibly as the money is needed to help finance the next level up of pony). Older ponies may get loaned out but if they are really good they could get leased or the owner may put the pony with a producer who will team it up with a suitable child.
The sort of pony you want does exist but unfortunately they don't come cheap.
Does you daughter really need to go to HOYs to enjoy having a pony or could she still enjoy a less flashy but equally safe pony who could do local level showing and would be easier to find on loan. Your daughter could be missing out on a fun summer with an average pony just because you want to go to HOYs.
Hopefully she will have many years of riding ahead of her and if she can't get to HOYs as a lead rein then there might be other opportunities when she is older and more experienced so could handle a younger or more tricky pony who again might be easier to find on loan or cheaper to purchase.

pm me if you are still looking....... a relation of mine brought a hoys Lr /fr ...........wait for it, for herself to start doing ridden classs...... at the age of 52, been in ponies all her life and spent all her time on her kids, now wants to start showing, she admits he is wasted so is looking to possibly sell or loan, she is a very genuine person, so you will receive no waffle.....and before anyone says 52 let me say she is only 5ft nothing and light as a feather and looks about 22..... i hate her ;D only joking
