OK, I know we've been over this a dozen times at least, in the past, BUT have you seen the For Sale Horse ads in H&H lately? In this weeks', on one page alone I counted 8 typos and spelling mistakes. Also a couple with the wrong picture and several with pics which are just a terrible blur. I suppose most of these 'mistakes' are because the adverts were dictated over the phone, but honestly! Perhaps that particular number which you have to ring to place the advert is somewhere in India! It wouldn't surprise me. I used to have such a lot of respect for H&H and have been taking it for over 50 years but it is now losing all credibility. Surely they could employ a horsey proof-reader with an 'O' Level in English Grammar? I feel like ringing them and suggesting they send all For Sale pages to me and I'd correct them before they went to print. It wouldn't take that long, would it? Shall I ??

Go for it, you have nothing to lose, where on the other hand if H and H continue like this they will have no advertisers at all,
Keep us updated

Thanks for the encouragement, ellieraga. In this day and age of high technology it wouldn't be too difficult for them to e-mail it to me, would it?
I'll try tomorrow. First, I'll have to have another painful look at the typos just to get in the mood!!

Just to put in a good word for H&H, I emailed them and asked for a prize for a competition I was running to make money for Cancer Research UK.
They sent me a limited edition print "The Whaddon Chase" by Cecil Aldin. I sold it at auction for over £100.
They were one of my most generous sponsors, so for that I am very grateful.
Sorry if this is off the topic, but sometimes its nice to say something positive.

I agree, lovepink. I shall always take H&H and have found they have been really helpful in the past. They have printed quite a few of my letters over the years - one or two being a bit controversial!
No, I don't want to sound disloyal to H&H; I just think they, the actual publishers, should be more accurate etc.

Never used them for advertising, but after just reading todays copy, i am a little disappointed that Springlane Pebbles did not get a photo in! Or did i miss it? Maybe the pages were stuck together? Unforgivable!

Got to say in this day and age with spell check etc, there should not be that many errors appearing should there

Trouble is, if it is dictated over the phone to a non-horsey person, then 'dun' will be written as 'done', and 'full of presence' will be 'four presents'!!! Spell-check is not going to pick up on these words. It doesn't usually pick up on jodPHurs! Bring back the good ol' days when everything had to be hand-written or typed on a piece of paper, put in an envelope, stamped and POSTED. There were hardly ever any mistakes or mis-prints then. I have noticed, (tongue in cheek), though, that one hardly ever sees poor examples of spelling etc. on the first few (large, expensive) pages of Horses for Sale in H&H. Are the vendors of these beautiful, huge horses better educated and more eloquent?

Makes you wonder if the people taking the adverts over the phone in the H & H office actually know anything about horses!!!!!

A lot of ads are placed on line though so typos are the responsibility of the vendors. You only have to read some of the postings on here to know that some people spend too much time with the geegees and not enough at school!(no criticism intended LOL!)

Also a lot of people placing ads, need their eyes tested. When you see the words STUNNING or BEAUTIFUL above the ugliest horses/pony ever.....you have to wonder if they have been to SPEC SAVERS? ? Gives me a laugh though!

A pony advertised this week as a 2 year old, ridden by novice children! NOW THAT IS ONE THING H&H should be stopping!

why dont you then? Not in a nasty way, but you could point out to them that 2 year old ponies and novice children are not a match made in heaven!!

Is a thought but i think i would blow a fuse ladybird! It annoys me somewhat, not only is the animal not developed enough but could be a ruddy dangerous position for any rider let alone a novice child. They would probably bite my head off and ignore me anyway. H&H has alot to answer for if they are not screening the adverts.

Maybe that would be a good idea? Someone needs to do something if this subject , as the original poster says, has been discussed atleast a dozen times! I am terribly bored, hence my posts, sorry! Girl doing ponies for me and man bringing the bacon home, leaves me with only housework to do!

We had one in the FOR SALE, not only did they have the wrong hight they also printed the wrong picture, we complained so they put it in the following week for free and a bigger picture, which I'm pleased to say they did, infact they put it in twice on the same page, with the wrong hight, wrong picture and to put the final nail in the coffin the wrong phone number. what do you do!!!!!

I tried to phone the relevant number at H&H on Friday, several times, from work (!), and just got 'I'm sorry I am not at my desk at the moment. Please leave a message ...............'
I shall keep trying.
And, yes, Cassie, go for it. Write them a letter. Why not send one to the Letters page for all to see?
There must be an awful lot of people like halfpass who are really disatisfied with their service. There was a lovely pic and advert in the other week with NO text to speak of. They must have been furious. AND IT'S NOT CHEAP, EITHER!

Don't hold your breath dun4you it took them 4 days to get back to me, by which time they had one very angry old queen bemanding not to speak to the puppet but the one who stuffs his hand up its a**e, they offered me two more weeks free, which was not a lot of cop as we had sold her from a add on the internet

It was probably a typo maybe the pony was 22 but they missed the first 2 off! I guess things could get worse during the holiday period if the regular staff are away and they get temps or others in to cover. A pony advertised this week as a 2 year old, ridden by novice children! NOW THAT IS ONE THING H&H should be stopping!
