Got to get this off my chest - was really cross today - went to the post office to get a stamp and there was an older lady paying something with her card and withdrawing money with another. Her fingers were obviously arthritic and she struggled a little with the key pad, so because she hadn't got her number in correctly first time the guy was quite sarcastic with her He then proceeded to count out her cash in a very loud voice so that all of us who were in the PO could hear exactly how much she had carried out in cash....God I was cross

Sadly the concept of customer service is lost on some people, I bet if it had been a younger man he would have been a lot more polite. Some people are just bullies. I have a neighbour like it, will shout and intimidate women but he's not quite so brave when your husband asks him what his problem is!

I absolutely cannot bear anyone being unkind to the elderley, it really upsets me. Most likely we will all be old sometime and then experience what it feels like, I would be very tempted to have said something quietely to the counter clerk, horrible man.

I struggle with keypads and thec.. What's happened to the good old fashioned post office where pensioners could get their deservered income and put their cash in tins to always pay their debts?? My Nan is 93yrs and as bright as a button ..If anyone ever spoke to her like that i would need a straight-jacket to restrain me.

MY VILLAGE POST OFFICE IS FABULOUS AND LOVELY TO OLD PEOPLE. Thet really go out of their way to be nice. Just like it should be! I would have told him off. These people need a slap sometime :-( if the old person is to vulnerable and nice to dig in their toes? WE SHOULD STAND UP FOR THEM. It brings out the terrier in me! must get it from my mother :-(

I recently had an appointment at the Hospital and when I got there I was confronted by this miserable coo that was rude, ignorant and proceeded to inform me that my appointment was the following week and I'd have to come back - she claimed they'd only received my referral letter that morning.
I had the appointment, as written down on a copy of the GP's referral letter, but she refused to be helpful, slamming the letter on the desk and telling me that I'd not be seen and would have to come back.
Needless to say, it's now in the hands of the Trust's Chief Executive, as I am also a member of staff and I would be sacked by my own senior manager if I treat patients in that way ... so this ignorant ruddy receptionist should be disciplined in the same way !!!!

We are so lucky in our village. We have a new couple running the shop who are really lovely, helpful people and an elderly chap who runs the Post Office. He is very slow and methodical which drives us a bit mad but he is also polite, pleasant and far too kind. He has been known to advance some money out of his own pocket when a customer has run out of cash and their pension wasn't due until the next day.
There's not many like him around, these days, more's the pity.

your village sounds lovely. my favourite thing to do when they're being rude to older people is to treat them exactly how they treated the older person that tends to bring them up short it's great! we don't have a PO/shop in our village so we go to one about a mile along the road in the next village and the people there are really nice, they have a joke and a laugh but are also really helpful.

The old hag in the nearest post office to me is a real rottweiler(in fact she owns one and we always say it's the sweetest of the pair). One day when I was in there a little old lady in front of me wanted something of the top shelf(not wht you might think - naughty!) The Rotweiller is only about 4ft 6 so she commanded me "pass that!" I asked her what the magic word was - the little old lady and me nearly wee'd ourselves at the old bag's thunderous expression! Still makes me smile
