although i didnt go to BSPS this year, I was interested to see the HOYS Supreme pony 2008 - Chagford Lewis placed well down the line in the BSPS results. The class in question was class 57- The Champion of Champions Lead Rein.
Could someone enlighten me as to what this pony did wrong!? as i have never seen it misbehave?
Or was the judge just brave enough to go against the norm??

The class in question took place in thunder and lightning, Lewis went out in the worst of the weather, and although he did nothing wrong it was really impossible to even judge the class in those conditions. I think you'll find he will be retaining his crown at HOYS!!!!

So if he did nothing wrong, why was such a prolific winner placed so far down the line? Maybe there were better ponies there on the day?

The weather was disgusting, it thundered and lightened, and may I say this pony went out to do its show, and behaved impecably, I am sorry to say that the top pony did not impress me half as much, a totally weird class to me...

A "wierd class"?
May I infer from this, that this class was judged properly and not judged on the person on the end of the lead rein??
As Moss correctly pointed out, every pony in the ring had to endure torrential rain and thunder storms and there was more than one pony that behaved impeccably- ideal childrens ponies. At this point i would like to say that no - I am not a connection of the winning pony or indeed of any pony in the ring that day it just strikes me that once "the unbeaten" are beaten, they will be beaten again......
Maybe this will make HOYS marginally more interesting?

Why be so nasty....... Chagford Lewis at his best is a difficult pony to criticize, especially his performance. The judges placed him according to how they felt he performed on the day. Why is there a need and a desire to knock the pony and comment in this way. Don't make HG a forum for making negative and unpleasant comments.

Oh, but they do - the more spiteful they can be, the happier they seem to be. (OK, there are some lovely, helpful and kindly people, in the real world and in the horseworld.
But, this 'sport' of ours seems, sadly, to be attracting the 'other' sort of person, who has about as much kindness, competitive spirit and respect as a dead mosquito.

We went to the champs and had a lovely week. Lots of top ponies but can i just say what great classes the best rider classes are. I watched the presentation in the evening perf and thought they all rode beautifully. Lovely to see classes reward these top riders who may not have the best ponies but definately looked to be the best riders. And all looked to be enjoying what they were doing!

Do remember the winner was 2nd at HOYS on equal marks and also had to contend with weather! Exactly, it had the same weather to contend with, and it did not cope with it, it tried to get its jockey off whilst waiting to do its trot out by leaping of all fours, and it was on outside bend most of the time due to leader having to hold the pony so tight, the weather did not blur my vision, there were many other ponies that coped with the weather better, and if they are good lead rein ponies, the weather should not come into it, and dont get me on the subject of 2nd at HOYS, we all have our own opinions on that.

How very sad that yet again a thread has been hijacked by the sad and jealous brigade, Chagford Lewis has got to be one of the best LR ponies of all time. He may not be everyones cup of tea, but his faultless displays and immpecible manners are in a league of his own. How many ponies can win what he has under such a wide range of judges? At the BSPS he wowed all the crowds and judges alike with his outstanding shows foot perfect all week.

From a personal point of view, it amuses me that if the expected pony wins, we have threads saying it's fixed, facey or whatever, then if a well known pony doesn't happen to win on a particular day, people are up in arms about that! You just can't win!

Difference in opinion always leads for interesting debate, unfortunately there will always be a difference of opinion when it comes to showing we dont all like the same thing. If we did my boy would have been at Hoys this year because in my opinion he is the bees knees. well hes not my boy anymore but i still love him to bits - as does his new mum!! I do have to say in a class manners should be judged with importance as all ponies are generally facing same conditions, some judges regard manners highly some dont - but again difference of opinion! Infact when you think about it it almost seems pointless commenting on classes and placings because if you agree its wrong if you dont your being bit*hy!

Chagford Lewis has proven himself everywhere. The only gripe we had was at Hickstead when Katy hung around the judges pavillion. In our opinion it would be a good move for the bSPS to ban competitors from it so stop bad feeling.
