Hi I have just bought a 4 year old TB x who looks very puny and is quite weak behind, obviously work is the key to build muscles, but could anyone give me some advice to help build her up with strapping? Also - what is the best feed to start to build her up as she is quite thin! I'm hoping to show her next spring!

Hi, I bought an underweight pony with previous lami a few months back that hadn't been wormed or trimmed much in 2 yrs. I took things with feed very slowly and started her on hi fi light with pre and probiotics (think it was Equine Gold) slowly introduced speedi beet and then eventually alfa a, she also gets Magnitude as it's good for the feet as well as de stressing the system. Obviously she doesn't get onto a grass paddock but she gets plenty good quality hay. I also long reined alot to build up her muscles and strapped with a suede pad ( as I've forgotten how to make a wisp with hay!) Hand held massager's are also great, I got one for a tenner by home medics in Asda. She is 4mths on looking fantastic and back doing dressage, you wouldn't recognize her, I must try to post a before and after pic! Whatever you do don't try to rush the weight on, you have plenty time till next spring! Good luck

Oh fantastic!! A different pony!! What method did you use for strapping her? I've never done it before!
Hope my horse looks as good as yours!
Thanks

I just swung my arm down patting her bum randomly and let the pad slide off- brought up a lovely shine too! Start 5 mins and build up to 30 mins if your arm can manage lol. It's been years since I strapped anything- I don't know why I ever stopped!
Thank you for the lovely comments, it's been a lot of work but worth it and shes such a kind girl- next year I hope she will look tip top! ;D
