Can anyone explain to me why my car insurance premium has gone up so much this year? When I have another year's no claims discount, the car is a year older so worth less, so how can they want more money to insure it?
And the company I'm with have sent my renewal through, yet if I go on one of the comparison sites and ask for exactly the same cover, the same company offer it to me for about £40 less? Is it just me or are they ripping me off?
If anyone can recommend a decent company who won't rip me off I would be very grateful!

I got a very good deal this year with sheila's wheels. Always use confused.com and then ring the best quoted company. ;D

They're hoping you won't notice!!! Had this with my home insurance, they wanted to put my premium up even though I've never claimed so said I wasn't happy with price quoted and they gave me it for £90 less!!!

I'm wondering whether it's worth ringing them and asking why they will sell me the same policy cheaper on line? It can't be because their admin costs are less on line, because the renewal says that if I don't do anything they will automatically take the payment from my account!
Have tried the comparison sites but it's not coming up a great deal cheaper tbh.

Try Churchill found them to be quite competitive. Had my RAC renewal in the post recently. They were asking for £207 for me and my daughter. Phoned them up and told then they were quoting dual membership for a lot less on line. They then told me they'd do a whole family membership (up tp 4 People) for £188. Don't like people who try to swizz you!

I use Conused.com and moneysupermarket.co.uk between them they cover most of the insurance brokers, I change broker every year, but it gets you the best deal

I've tried 3 of the comparison sites, co-op seems to be about the cheapest at the moment but they don't include legal protection.

I had this problem MM, I just reinsured it and thought when I had time I'd find cheaper and cancel. STUPID ME!! Two months into the insurance, I have sold the car, to get out of it as I'm paying monthly, I have to pay £150! Its cheaper to keep insuring a car I dont now own, until my new one arrives!! I could'nt believe it!!

I'm with Direct Line, can't fault them prompt pay out when my car was written off and hire car was made available free of charge within 48 hours (was a weekend) . Have insured replacement car with them with even better discount.

Just ring them and they will match what they quote online, totally daft!
Ensure you have taken the Protect Your No Claims out as well.

Have claimed through direct line in the past and also can't fault them, but there quote is about £100 dearer than the rest! S&O, is it usually a lot extra for protected no claims? Not sure if it's worth it as I don't do many miles, just pottering around town and shopping etc really. Also the extra year's no claims doesn't seem to have brought the price down this time!

Legal protections is a must but I don't bother with the protected no claims.

I love it get cheeper tax as well and drive a v12 but it can only do 155mph in uk. Not that I would ever speed!! They sent me a renewal and I didnt take it as it was off road for a month. All these companies offer cheaper prices to new customers to get the business then the next year they hike the price up and hope you don't notice or can't be bothered to change.
