My three year old connemara has developed swollen fetlocks on both hindlegs over last 24 hours. He has been turned out so its not due to being stood in the stable, there are no obvious signs of injury or mud fever but he does seem to be sore on both legs with some heat too. I have the vet coming later but am sat here worrying - any ideas? Thanks

You have done the very best thing calling the vet and I think we all know how you are feeling and the worry you are going through. The symptoms you describe could be one or a combination of loads of things so us speculating will only make you worry more.
Invariably, as with all these things, it turns out to be something simple and we can breathe a sigh of relief.
We shall be thinking about you and your pony and hope you post up as soon as the vet goes on cause and treatment.

Not got firm diagnosis but am pleased to report that there's nothing serious - vet could only find thrush although not usual to cause such extensive swelling or could have bruised feet as my daughter has been leading him out recently. Vet decided to treat with anti-biotics, bute and anti-bacterial cleanser so he should feel better soon. Was very placed with his behaviour with the vet though - was very patient whilst having his temperature taken (!!!) and having his sore feet manhandled. Thanks for your support.

Had a mare who used to have 3 swollen legs at a time sometimes when came in from field. I am sure it was where she had been pricked by the big thistles with the big purple heads on. I washed with salt water and within 3 - 4 days would have gone down. Just a thought!
