I have concerns about a situation concerning a friend, whose daughter is a very good friend of my little girl and both compete together at local show in LR classes. Friend's daughter has many advantages over most little girls, 2 ponies (one ex-HOYS SHP & county M&M, both totally produced) and a grandmother who is a well known instructor providing lessons several times every week etc etc. All season they have competed both ponies with great success in their respective classes at the local shows.
At the last show of the season a complaint was made that she was presenting the wrong pony for one of the classes, and it turned out she had done so at every event. She was apprehended after the class and informed that those points would be forfeited for the season because she had never technically entered a classes with that pony. We have competed in the same class all year and I feel rather aggrieved that there could have been a situation over final points had this not been discovered. At the time she was extremely apologetic, insisting that it was a genuine, innocent mistake due to her inexperience in showing. She later went forward to collect reserve champion on the pony.
However, I am even more disappointed to hear subsequently that she has admitted to intentionally entering the other pony's name in order to collect the maximum points trophies. As it happens, this has been prevented, but I feel that the club and all the other competitors have been made fools of, and, unless her mother had been aware of the ruse, her reputation locally has been unwittingly besmirched by what appears to be outright cheating. But, before anyone says it is sour grapes, my daughter did very well in what was her first season and I have no personal gain from any penalties, the red rosettes were awarded on the show days and certainly wouldn't be recovered to be handed down.
Having examined the club rules there does not appear to be any mention of sanctions or penalties for incidents such as this and I wonder whether she has got away with it due to the fact that there is nothing written down to prevent it, or because of her 'misrepresentation' of the situation gleaning sympathy.
What would be your interpretaion of this scenario, and any advice?
