As you may know, Bertie has had a skin problem for about 2 months now. He has had antibiotics/anti mange treatments/anti mite treatment/special skin food etc etc etc Finally had skin scraping done Tuesday - vet rang weds - its MITES ! She was rather embarrassed that all her efforts, with these up to date drugs - have totally failed to kill off his mites! Is anyone a MITE expert? What can I do? He is always on Stronghold - which kills mites. He is also on Advocate - Anti mite drops, has been for 2 months How the hell am I going to get rid of these BIONIC MITES ?

Thanks for the link! I did speak to the vet about a wash for Bertie, but they said cats get too stressed, which causes more problems than the mites. Having read the link you posted, it seems that stress is a factor in some cases anyway, so what the vet said makes sense? They have given me Surolan Ear and Skin treatment, to put on Bertie now, as they think he may have the mites living in his ear, which are not getting killed by the spot on treatments. He is then scratching his ears and re-spreading the mites? Sounds like a good plan? Fingers crossed x

OMG! poor cat our kitten had ear mites when we got him and despite our best efforts they will NOT go. Kitten has gone to vets today (to say goodbye to his manhood!) perhaps they will suggest something else, what did you you use did you say?

SURULAN ear and skin drops, we are using now. Some people have said, they wont go until the frosts come and kill off the field mites, then they will all be ok till next summer. Hopeully by then they will be more immune?
Its horrible isnt it, knowing what they have got, but cant get rid of them! Horrible little things!

we brought a kitten with dreadful ear mites at christmas, in the end he had to go and have his ears cleaned out when he had his bits n bobs of. I now pin all the cats down weekly in the summer and clean ears out with ear wipes, touch wood has kept the horrid things away. Cats not to keen when they see me go to the dreaded cupboard where all things horrid are kept!

I know - the instructions from the vet are, squirt liquid 2 x daily into both ears and then massage in for 2 minutes...........er right - you try it!
The minute I pick up the ear drops, the feline community leave the building!

OR 1. Catch moggie with large landing net 2. Get unsuspecting friend to help squash under any item that is lying around, pref made of chainmail 3. Squirt into ears, nose , mouth (mine or friends) 4. Wipe with cloth (avoiding teeth, claws, front an back) 5.Make appoligies to ex friend as she climbs quickly into car, whilst sticking plasters onto various parts of body. simple

PMSL ....... 6. Put up umbrella, to avoid the fall out - when moggie starts to shake the drops back out of his ears! 7. Do not look at moggie for at least an hour, after the event, to avoid the "look of death".
