I would like to know how a pony in the SP F/R, then same pony in SP L/R, lose 8 marks in confirmation under the same judge on the same day?

Joules, that's an interesting point, and without getting involved in individual cases, (didn't watch the LR class so cannot begin to comment) is it not just possible that TYPE as well as ConfOrmation may have also been a consideration? ie: true FR Type may not be necessarily be true LR Type and vice-versa. Plus, who's to say that the marks may have actually been gained, not lost. Just a thought.

Plus, who's to say that the marks may have actually been gained, not lost.Because i don't think a judge is able to award marks on an absolute basis but rather in relation to the other marks already being awarded. For exmaple, if said pony does the lead rein, is last to be presented for the judge and gets 38/40 for conformation - the best of the class. Now the same pony comes back for the first ridden and is the first of 25 ponies to be presented to the judge. Does the judge give it 38 again with 24 ponies still to see? How are they to know several even better ponies are not about to be presented to them? I certainly wouldn't if I were the judge, i'd start at a more conservative 30. If it turns out once again it is the best pony of the class then all the other marks will be below 30 - so bit it. This is why I never understand why people get so hung up on the actual mark they are given, rather than in the context of the rest of the class.

Very well put Calculator. Marks will be in comparison to the rest of the class. I presume this is why Humdinger got perfect marks assuming the judge over marked earlier horses!(sorry does that make sense I've been on the pop but know what I mean!)

calculator guest, yes I think I can see what you mean, the pony might have been a better LR than a FR or vise- versa. Then would have been judged differently in each class.

It may also not have shown itself off as well in one of the classes, perhaps been a bit fidgety or not stood square. ETA - I'm not saying this was the case as I wasn't there - just pondering as to the reason for the difference.

I can not comment how the pony went in both classes as I was not there. It was realy well placed in the one class with a good confirmation mark, and was not placed in the other class.I noticed this when getting the marks for all the classes off TSR.
