I would like your opinions please. Would a coloured horse be penalised in the show ring for having blue/wall eyes i dont think i have seen any at top level?

The eye colour and the patches should not make any difference at all. Conf and way of going and correctness to type are what should matter most.

It should not make any difference, there are some about but as everything you will always get judges which do not like them and will mark down

showhunters, i dont like them, but, what if for example it was the best type/example and went the best? would you drop it below something not as good above it?

It is not a conformation fault so why should the pony be down the line Its like saying that pony only has 3 white socks and not 4,so it should be down the line. I love seeing coloured horses with blue eyes

I did own a pony with two blue eyes, he was a rescue and I loved him. Would I pay a fair amount of money for one, no afraid not and would I place it in the show ring, not unless it went extraordinarily well and everything else was worse. Sorry, don't like at all.

Tidkin Real Mcoy has a wall eye and she qualified for HOYS 2008 and always does well at county level showing.

My horse has a blue/wall eye and i wouldnt change him for the world. It has never effected us in the showring or anything like that but i dont know if i would buy another with a blue eye as i dont actually think it looks all that nice. lol when i take pics of my boy i always try to take them on his "good side" ;D
You get different shades of blue too, Bills is quite a dark blue whereas my friend has a clydesdale with a blue eye and its quite sky blue and not very nice looking at all. shes another that we only take pics of her right side lol

The colour of a horses eyes are like the colour of its coat - totally irrelevant and superficial! I amazed that some judges will still take this sort of thing into consideration personal preference is one thing but bringing it into the judging ring - leaves me speechless---------- There are far more important things to be judging an animal on other than its eye colour Unfortunately until these judges who take eye colour into consideration learn to look beyond this and make it a level playing field then this will be an issue for some competitors.

Chaps and BSPA both instruct their judges not to penalise horses with blue or wall eyes. I personally love blue eyes but they are irrelevant in my opinion when I judge, as I always judge the animal, not the colour, (unless a best colour and markings class then the coat colour and distribution is relevant ).

What has eye colour got to do with type, conformation, way of going? I REALLY DONT LIKE IT, but would never simply not place one! Who cares what colour their eyes are, sorry, i maybe confused, but does a blue eye effect the way a horse goes? Nope. Didn't think so!!

I personally would prefer not to have a blue/wall eye however I have my eye on a fantastic foal that has a blue eye and does her mother. The mother has bred some amazing stock and It will not effect her performace just judges opinions. I would never have considered a blue and white coloured until I found our cob and she is them most kindest and honest horse we have owned. At least she stands out in the ring but I know when I walk in that ring some judges dont like blue and whites.

I don't particularly like them but would be low down on my list of priorites below conformation, type, quality, movement, way of going etc. I would only use them as a deciding factor if I had 2 which I really couldn't split any other way.

I have a foal this year with two blue eyes....he is stunning and conformation is correct...to be honest i wasnt keen on them before but his eyes really suit him....eye colour should not be taken in to consideration when judging any class, but like others have said some judges dont like them and will place them lower :-(

down to personal preference, i wouldn't like to place a horse with a blue/wall eye sorry, just don't like them. Not read rest of posts yet, so if animal was perfect in all other respects and part of its breed make up or white marking you wouldnt place it Very wrong, sorry but even WPCS judges are having to accept the fact that good ponies can have blue eyes and providing its a healthy blue eye then no reason that you shouldnt place it, if 2 of full equal merit fair enought a little personal preference comes into it, but i would much rather have a well made blue eyed pony than some of them out their. Incedently yes i have 1 with 1 blue and one brown and find the sort of attitude that your post came accross as as very wrong !!!!

Look at this pony, ok you may or may not like him, makes no difference to me as to be honest he owes me nothing and has prooved himself in hand and ridden under enough judges whos opnion i respect Now look again ! And before the people jump on me that the post has come back to me again, i am using my pony as an example as a feel very strongly about this subject - Almost as much as i do geldingings in breed classes and conformation and type over colour and markings ! Just read rest of posts seem that quite a few people agree !

I think some people should watch, read and learn before they type Maybe go to one of the coloured championship shows and then you will realise that a blue eye will have no affect on a ponys placeing Being at hoys for the week i noticed quite a few ponies with blue eyes, they obviously were not marked down for this.

I am very surprised that some people would drop a pony down the line because of a blue eye or 2 blue eyes!! Actually, im quite disgusted. I know it happens, but i think its terrible. In my opinion, if a judge cant look past something that in their opinion "they dont like" I dont think they are very good judges at all and personally would have no respect for them whatsoever. Its not a conformation fault or a fault with their eyes. Its just a colour. Its actually discrimination. But hey, it just shows you.......look at the judges at HOYS this year, i dont think they would drop a pony simply because of a blue eye, like other people have said, some ponies with blue eyes did very well. But then again , mabey this is why these judges arnt at the likes of HOYS etc!! I thought judging was about looking at conformation type and movement?? Ability to do well in a job?? Not wether it has a blue eye or not!!!!! It makes me sooooo mad.... Jump down my throat if you like.....But i am entitled to my opinion too.

I think it is perfectly fine to take a horses eye colour into consideration. We had a stunning 148cm sp who was a grey, although very beautiful and faultless conformation there would be some days we were at the bottom of the line because of the colour of his coat whereas other days he would be supreme champion, all down to the judge on the day. Theatrically, if i was the judge on the day, i'm sorry but i just wouldn't place a blue eye, but who knows, the next judge that they go under might absolutely adore horses with blue eyes and have him to win. Northbeech better make sure we dont go under Showhunters as a judge And I certainly wouldnt place a blue eyed pony on its eye colour alone just because I like them - if a dark eyed pony was the better one on the day - I dont discriminate on colour at all - type, conformation, movement, manners, performance - ability to do the job is what counts.

I would never put a pony of any colour down the line because of the colour of it's eyes and i'd be disappointed if a judge actually did - just my opinion.

See this all worries me about showing. There is so much discrimination its untrue, not just with blue eyes, we took our new section A to a big show, whilst in the collecting ring, a lady said, you will win because this judge breeds your type of A, it did win!
However, there were ponies who went far better than ours did that day! I was appalled to be quite honest!
I would just like to be judged fairly at the end of the day not all of it is down to personal opinion, it is down to type, manners, way of going, conformation etc, if our ponies had blue eyes, i wouldn't see it would be acceptable for a judge to bring in what they think is ugly or not!!!
I wouldn't have a relationship with a man with ginger hair, yet if he came for a job interview i wouldn't hold it against him!!
