showhunters i cant believe it! we arrived first thing at half 8 to be told, that due to a dog show and crufts legislations the dogs were to have the large indoor and the horses the dark small indoor! You got put into groups to warm up prior the classes to warm up in the indoor! if we'd have known it was in the small ring we wouldn't have gone!
well done to everyone today who did well!

We went to Barton today and to be fair they did apologise for the double booking and the small school wasn't that bad. On the plus side we were able to warm up in the grass ring and also lunge (which we can't usually do). The other good thing was that the first riddens couldn't get lost in their show - suited our first-timer perfectly!

I attended this show with a friend and although we are all human and mistakes can be made i feel they should have pre warned people of the change. They would have known before the day they had double booked, then people could make there own choice.
The small outdoor in my opinion was a health ans safety hazard, Horse walker at one end metal railings orange bollards and people walking in with ponies mid class for a look!distracting to even the most established hores never mind a novice.
I feel this ring was OK if you had a small pony ie FR lead rein etc but imagine trying to canter and exited C/D Hunter etc round a tiny dark ring! i have a novice C who covers ground and i dont think i would have made it round!
They did there best to accomodate a bad situation though and i did feel for the organisers.

apple123, hmmm bit of a differance in travelling time, Barton is 40mins away from home, keysoe about 41/2 hours.... To be fair as Penny h said, it wasnt that bad, the first riddens all managed to cope , perhaps suited them in a smaller school, wonder what the larger ones coped like?

my heart somewhat sunk when we arrived & was told we were in the indoor. Plus it was a mixed breeds novice. Didn't get chance to work in as it was madness in the indoor, it was only after the class I realized you could use the outdoor paddock.
Poor D's having to contend with little ponies & slower moving connies!
However, it turned out to be a good day & we achieved what we set out to do.
Thought the judge did a good job in my classes & was very sensible.

hi just to put the record streight regarding the dog show, it is my mum christine richardson who runs the showso i know all the details. the deposit was paid at the show last year and unfortunately it was not booked in the diary so the owners of barton thought there was nothing on and went ahead and organised the horse show. this error was only realised on wednesday when mum rang to sort out times etc. the problem was this show is a championship show and entries were closed and are suspect to very strict kennel club rules with a kennel club representative due to come and inspect the show. the horse show had entries on the day so many people would still attend if cancelled so would be immpossible to do so. i personally think barton did a marvellous job under really hard circumstances . after all everyone makes mistakes no one is perfect and a little toleration is all that is required. thank you barton..

personally think it all went ok yesterday, don't recall any problems. Thought everyone got on with it all without any complaints. However, I maybe wrong.
Thought considering the situation, neither the dogs nor the horsey lot were too badly affected. Could of been much worse, I didn't think the dogs disturbed the horses at all & don't expect the dogs were distracted either.

no i dont think there was a photographer! In fairness to the show, they coped well with the situation. I just wished they'd posted it on their website, we travelled up from cheshire with a C and D it wasn't the best of ring for them had we known we wouldn't have gone. i agree fantastic for the FR
some lovely ponies there!

Must admit I was very under enthused by the whole affair. They were going to amalgamate 4 classes which would have mixed kids on small breeds with big entires in that tiny arena. I did complain bitterly and obviously wasnt on my own as they didnt eventually do this. I think they should have informed people to allow some choice on whether or not you attended under the changed circumstances, a notice on the website perhaps. I definately would not have gone and I agree it was a total health and safety risk, especially the mixed novice class and large breeds. As it goes it made no difference to our first ridden which was a prat anyway but our dartmoor needed a bigger ring for sure.

God, itd rather not talk about it!!!!!!! It doesnt belong to us he is on loan but hes been a lead rein. Hes a grey! Not sure how long ill percevere but I really dont want to buy another pony for my nippers last year first ridden. He was a bit of a nightmare all weekend really. Wouldnt canter in the corner. Rider did make it canter on second time (quite rightly so). Barton was a bad show for us, romeos rider didnt make it either so he had no rider! Disaster!

Yes deffo a mileage issue. I do love him hes a sweetie but I must admit the whole barton thing was a horror. I do think if they were going to mess about with the rings etc they should have informed us earlier so we could perhaps have given it a miss. Even our darty struggled in that simply hopeless ring. As for being keen.......ive got mileage to put on so it just has to be done! Hopefully after a few schooling shows for our new FR he will get to grips with canter corners its so hard when they do it at home but need the mileage at shows isnt it?

We competed Barton Sat workers and i heard no mention of Sunday's double-booking By the sounds of it, if Barton had advertised the fact website or wherever beforehand then they would have had hardly any horse/pony entries on the Sunday as i expect many peeps would have given it a miss however, well done to those who braved it out and the hardy little FR riders!
