I've just about had my fill with my cat vets at the minute. I was driving past my vets today and I popped in for a wormer. I asked the receptionist if I could have a wormer spot on that does fleas aswell for my 7yr old cat. He is a ferrel cat though have had him since he was 5wks old but has a temper so you have to be quick when worming or fleaing as he'll have your hand off! She wouldnt give me one as the vets hadnt seen him for a year! I couldnt believe it! So I told her to stick the wormer and I'd get it off the internet! They wanted me to bring him in (he wets himself in the car as he gets so stressed) and to charge me a consultation of £30 just to give me a wormer! They've had £450 off me recently for another of my cats who is 17yrs old who had to have teeth out and was found to have an overactive thyroid like her mum of 20yrs. They had £140 off me last week for my 20yr old cat because they wouldnt give my anymore tablets for her as she hadnt had a recent blood test. What made me really cross was the vet asked me was it because I couldnt afford it that I didnt want my old cat of 20yrs to have a blood test! Well I hit the roof! Because the last time they did a blood test on her they told me to up the dose and it nearlly killed her! So NO I told her its not the money. I know my cat and shes well for 20yrs! Sorry but they have really cheesed me off today!

I'm, seriously thinking about changing them. Their whole attitude stinks. It was the vet that asked me if it was that I couldnt afford the blood test that really hacked me off! I told her that they'd had £450 off me recently. I'd got a £2000 horse vet bill, I feed all the stray cats that turn up at my yard, so NO it wasnt the money, I'm not exactly hard up but I havent got it to throw away. It was only when I told her what I do for a living that she actully spoke to me like a human being!

Yes def change your vet. There is a practice close to where I live, that the vet nurses all get 20% off thier bills. They all still go to my vets, 4 miles further away, as its cheaper!
What does that tell you!

I phoned the vets this evening and got to speak to the vet I'd seen previous. I told her it was ridiculous that they wouldnt give me a wormer and in no uncertain terms told her what I thought about their practice! Well shes leaving me out a wormer for me to pick up tomorrow! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is their last chance!

I had a cat with thyroid trouble, and I was under the impression that they had to be blood tested every three months to check their levels, this used to cost me about £50 a go, I did buy the medication off the internet but you have to have a prescription from your vet or any reputable company won't sell you the drugs. £140 for a blood test sounds a bit steep to me.

it is standard that within a Vet Practice that all animals requiring wormers that are prescription medicine only must be seen before giving them some vets do free flea and worm checks and some have a SQP (suitably qualified person) THAT can ask you the right questions and then supply as probably your vet did - this is not a con its the rules of dispensing and if this receptionist had given them you she could have been in serious trouble had anything happened to your cat once you had given the wormer she could have explained this to you in a better way also Drontal and Frontline can be bought from a chemist - Milbemax and Frontline Combo are prescription medicines and have to have a written script first to obtain from a chemist hope this helps

Spent a further £125 at vets today with more blood tests and tablets, a vit b12 injection and tom cobbly and all!! Cat now has slightly low potassium, so has now got to be on tablets for that! Where will it all end!

I had to have my old lady cat Kitekit pts this week. Not only was the vet trying to get her bloods sorted but she was also diagnosed with a heart mumour. She was in heart failure and her lungs were filling up with fluid. I spent hundreds on her since the summer and I just wondered if perhaps we'd left her alone she'd have lived longer! Shes now buried with her friend in the garden. Still got her mum at 20yrs, been badly constipated over christmas but is much brighter now. I always thought she'd be the last one standing!
