We're at livery at The College Ec. Just got tacked up to ride this evening at 6, walked across the road to the indoor school and they started! The fireworks weren't too far in the distance, they were banging and whooshing poor pony couldnt make head nor tail of them so needless to say we hurried back to the stables. God I hate this time of year!

Same here! before we can move the horses to the winter field we have to wait for it to be over, whenever that is! also get fed up with collecting the broken rocket sticks from the field, wish they would pick their own rubbish up, is no different to chucking crisp packets in my field, will be sure to deliver the sticks to the rightful owners this year though!

I am very lucky where I live now in Wales and all our neigbours are horsey so we don't have a problem. We can see some in the far distance over the valleys but that is it. Isn't it about time the goverment banned fireworks being bought and used by the general public!! Only large displays on the actual night should be allowed.

Its not just at this time of the year,, everyone around here seems to celebrate with the biggest loudest bang that they can, for any event, i wouldnt mind there are horses everywhere around here. I could willingly kill the selfish B.....ds, who scare my animals, a few years ago i had a vets bill for over £2 grand through an injury cause through fireworks. I do wish they could only be used at public dispays and banned the rest of the year.

I hate them too!!! Although every year our little hamlet ( 11 houses ) has a bonfire party up the road a way in the farmers field. We invite friends and theres usually about 100 of us we all take food and drink to share in the barn afterwards and yes someone always brings a few fireworks but as we are so remote not many people/animals hear them, they look pretty but cant stand the noise. I really feel for people who keep their ponies in built up areas where there are lots of firework activity

It wasn't actually the noise he was scared of - he is used to riding with the EC owner spray painting indoor school and clanging about, he couldn't work out what all the colours were about!

We will have fireworks going off from now to New Year!
I absolutely hate the bloomin things. OK - yes have an organised display on Bonfire Night. We can all give our dogs and horses some calmers, leave radio's on etc etc, but everynight, for every tom willy and harry to let off when they feel like it......makes me see red!
Definately need to be banned for Joe Public to buy. Licenced displays only.

we lost our precious filly drenrow eclipse because of our unthoughtful neighbours , they decided to buy a load of industrial display fire woks and let them off with no warning at all less that 60ft from our barn with the stables in . the mare shot back paniced by the fireworks and trod on her head , she died 2 months later from a brain hemorage this her the week before she passed away

How totally tragic. I would have been devastated. I hate fireworks. I'm lucky in that I'm fairly remote but have a few new neighbours this year down the lane who may need a gentle introduction to the village rule re: fireworks and parties as we have so much livestock all over the place. My horses are fairly sensible as we have a lot of shooting and Chinooks but my doggies are wimps. I have to take them out in the car and drive them up and down the motorway with the radio on as they get sick with fear :-(
