Lots of local shows do Ridden Cob Type, or Traditional Ridden Showing. Does he jump? At local level there are sometimes classes for unregistered Native type as well as the M&M workers.
The main thing is to do what you and he both enjoy and are good at!
Also, my native cob type used to do well in family pony classes, being sensible and suitable for all the family to ride. If he's a sensible type then try the fun classes like Handy pony etc. Just enjoy him.
By the way, welcome to Horse Gossip!!
