Have mentioned this briefly on Polite Request thread. My friend is still owed £180 prizemoney from a pre entry only show. They didn't tell her no money in kitty until she tried to collect it. In my view this is disgraceful. No contact whatsoever fronm the show since then. Has anyone else experienced this? What can my friend do? Is it reasonable to name the show on thie thread? How can we protect ourselves about this happening in the future? Obviously my friend paid all of her entry fees, diesel etc etc and is now really angry about the situation

That just isnt fair and very disappointing for your friend. If we bought a raffle ticket and there was no prize at the end it would feel similarily so. I dont know what the legal position is, but hopefully someone here on HG will. Good luck.

They can't wothhold prize money!!! They had advertised it is the schedule therefore have to follow it up with payment. I also think this is disgraceful as you shell out loads of money for these big shows and the prize money is only just as much as the entry fee for 1st normally.

I think that's terrible. There are more and more shows decreasing prize money and advising in schedule that it will only be awarded to 1st if less than 4 in the class, etc but at least you are pre-advised of that. I think a show would be hard pushed not to pay out prize money when it has been advertised in the schedule unless the show society declares bankruptcy - may be worth getting some legal advice....free advice through BHS membership? And yes I do think you should name and shame - as long as you are being factual then that's exactly what needs to be done. Otherwise, other members could enter future shows under false pretences.

We always aim to offer a small token of prize money at Notts Derby Summer Show to Champion & Reserve, Its Not Much at All, compared to the above, and all we state is that we offer an amount of proze money depending on the bills basically being covered, that is for a small show. At Derby County, our schedule states the quantity of entrants needeing to be entered in each class for which prize money is payable to, THIS WILL ALWAYS BE PAID, it is false advertsing not to pay and a show offering over £180.00 of prize money should have enough to cover this ! Our HOYS & RIHS Qualifiers (Only 4 at the Mo) have a top prize of £45 with Other Riddens/WHP & Driving Being £25 and In Hand are lower though generally are WPCS, NPS or other organisation qualifiers ! Have you contacted the show directly ?? To Ensure its not an oversight, Is this from a show previously recently discussed Feel free to PM me with which show it was as would be interested.

A couple of years ago I won a supreme of show with £200 prize money, a rug and another prize. I went to the office to sign for my trophy and was surprised to be told my money and other prize would be forwarded on......
The rug was waaaaaaaaay too big for my pony but i was told they would swap it for me, no problem, so I didn't take that either.
I got a phone call a couple of days later from the show organiser saying that the cheque and other prize would be in the post in a couple if days and the rug as soon as they had swapped it.
Weeks later, still nothing so I emailed, politely.
They replied saying it would be in the post straight away......
More weeks later, still nothing....
After another email I did eventually get my cheque.
My other prize, I only got 12 months later, when returning my trophy..........
My rug, I am still waiting for!!!!
Now, this was a relatively big championship show, so i was very disappointed, especially when compared to another, small riding club show where I won supreme champion again in the same year. Here too was £200 prize money, but I was presented, in the ring, with an envelope containing £200 cash! Now that is how it should be done.

Thanks for the PM Bemused, and wasnt a show already mentioned in other threads actually, i am a little shocked that the show it is owning you havent sorted it, as a fellow small showing society and knowing these people personally, im shocked they havent sorted it, i will give them a slight nudge.
This is a problem with smaller shows running on a breadline, hence we are cautious with our wordings, big shows generally not so much of a problem as even on a bad year you have back up, I know all about running on a tight breadline with our shows, and have fantastic suppliers who are very good to let me pay for things after the day, I have never not paid a bill though have done many out of my own funds then sat VERY tightly crossed fingers toes etc hoping i can get enough in to pay me back, this is my partners problem with the shows as he is the only one with a real job, yet i work 24/7 voluntary, I have always paid out of our own finances to cover things for the show, no way on this earth we could have done it any other way.
But think you should re contact them, i know they do come on here as have posted not long ago on a post, im sure they will try and sort it out for you xxx

Thanks Emma Jane. I know my friend is not keen to name and shame as doesn't want to cause and ill feeling. But my blood still boils at the principle (or lack of it!)
