is it just me or does anyone else seem to be constantly washing and ironing? i did 2 hours of ironing on thursday, and now have a full ironing basket again, my washing machine is on twice a day at least and i seem to spend hours drying clothes. in this weather i cant get it dry on the line and i refuse to have a tumble dryer as i know i would use it more than i should. i seem to spend at least an hour a week sorting out socks and pants and always have at least 14 odd socks at any one time? and ive just put a nice whites wash on and can see a pink sock happily spinning round in the washer with school shirts and white vests, socks and pants, so will have to remove sock when finished and put it all on a boil wash to get rid of the colour. grrrrrr

I hate ironing so just tumble dry most things or hang up and let the creases fall out. Do iron some things but its a very timewasting occupation. Can think of much nicer pastimes- horsey related of course. x

BR, how do you get away with 4 washes for 3 of you? we have 3 of us and i have one of the bigger washing machines and still im constantly washing! think OH stuff doesnt help tho, hes a builder and has a full set of cleans clothes every day for work, as he always comes home minging. little girl has uniform on all week, and usually has a clean one every day as she comes home covered in yogurt, paint or sludge. i have to iron most things in our house, apart from the silly things like tea towels and bedding, tho my late mother in law was horrifed that i dont iron bedding! who irons bedding? not me, got enough to do without ironing quilt covers and pillow cases as well. my mum has best idea, she has a tumble dryer too, and just 'carefully folds' when it comes out. think i may have to put one on my list to father christmas, although ive always said i dont want one, as everything would go in it, and it would eat leccy. think i could justify by saying irons are as expensive and it wouldnt be on as much?

AMWAP, i wouldn't be without my tumble drier, it saves you money on ironing, but a little tip, invest in some plug in timers and have it on on the cheap electric overnight. If you time it so's it's just finished when you get up in the morning, you can still fold things warm and save on the ironing.

is electricity cheaper overnight? i never knew that! i have never had a tumble dryer, and have always thought they were really expensive to run, but i think i should get one this year, our house is really cold downstairs over winter, and having stuff airing on the pipes really doesnt help much. and as everyone else has said less ironing for me to do, so think i may have to look at getting one. may wait unitl jan sales tho, as everything will be on sale. need a new fridge freezer too, but am goanna wait til jan for that as well as i may be able to get the american style on with an ice dispenser that i am hankering after. its only so i can have my pear cider in summer without getting ice cubes stuck to my fingers!

Ahhh - amumwithapony given you a karma for not having a tumble dryer - bless you - you need one now!
I tumble dry most the kids stuff in it, so that it doesnt have to be ironed. School jumpers and polo shirts come out ready to wear!
Also, horses sheepskin half pads etc - simply MUST be tumble dried! How else would you keep the fleece soft and bouncy!
If your house is a bit chilly - your new tumble dryer will warm it up a bit too ! xx

amwap I know exactly how you feel !!! I have washing for seven of us(don't ask ). We have beams in our kitchen and an aga so I went along and put tiny nails in them. Hang all the washing on coat hangers. All dries overnight. I do at least 3 loads a day . x

AMWAP check what tariff you are on, if your bill has day units and night units then you are on economy seven and it's cheaper overnight. Recommend one of the condensing driers as it warms your kitchen without steaming everything up. We have one of the big american style fridge freezers (no ice dispenser though), and it's one of the best things we've ever bought, get things measured up carefully though to make sure it will go in the house, it's fitting them through doorways that can be a problem, especially if you have double glazed doors.

Dead easy. Find a second hand one and threaten him with another divorce. If mine doesn't cook etc he doesn't eat. Hunger is a sharp thorn.

We do about 4-5 loads a week for 3 of us. I don't iron my clothes or my daughter's - once you put them on, a few minutes of body heat soon sorts out the creases. My OH irons all his stuff, but that's up to him!
We have a washer drier, as our kitchen's too small for separate appliances. It washes well but is rubbish at drying, so I tend to finish big stuff off hanging from the stairs in our living room.

i do everything in our house, but i only work a couple of hours a week as and when im required so i think that is fair enough, as OH does about 50 hours a week hard graft so he can keep us in the style to which we have become accustemd! when we first met i did work 3 full days a week, but we set our own business up, which i do all the paperwork and as we save about £50 a week on accountants fees, and then £40 a week on school fees plus about £20 a week on parking it just wasnt worth me doing it anymore. so am now a lady of relative leisure so dont mind doing the domestic goddess bit, just the washing and ironing i hate. mentioned getting a tumble dryer last night, and as he was in the mood for a bit of loving (!) said whatever love so am gonna do some t'internet shopping this morning and see what i can find.

I don't have a tumble drier either - but constantly have a clothes horse up. Having said that, I couldn't tell you the last time I put clothes on it as OH does most of the domestic stuff around here. I did use an iron a fortnight ago and ironed a shirt for him - first time I had used the iron for about 2 years!!

Have to admit I use the tumble drier all the time, even in the summer. Dont even own a washing line. All goes in the drier and then if you fold things as soon as they come out things like underwear, socks towels etc dont need ironing ; and if you iron straight after it comes out the drier it doesnt take much ironing! If for any reason it doesnt get ironed straight away I have been known to rewash and dry so its easy! Hate having to iron shirts and jeans that have been left crumbled for a bit! Seem to do 2 loads of washing a day at least. Then there's the loads that just have hubby's stinky farm overalls in and nothing else. - dont fancy washing my underwear with sheep muck!!!

Wash and tumble dry stacks. Even in Summer line dry and give it 10 minutes in the drier to get the creases out. Iron?? If we are going out ( ) and OH needs a shirt. My sister irons socks Never Never Never ;D

Have just asked OH and apparently we don't own an iron or a tumble drier. The poor dear has to trundle off to the launderette to get things dried in the winter. If it wasn't for H.G. I would never have asked but then again I do work 365 days a year and he doesn't.
