Does anyone know about fits in cats? I just heard a commotion upstairs, I think Bertie was chasing Tiggy my timid Bengal around, as he often does. There was a loud bang, she flew down the stairs and then had a massive fit on the hall carpet for about a minute! I thought she was dead afterwards, but was just shocked. She got up slowly after a few minutes and has now walked off looking nervous Could a bang on the head do that or stress? Dont know what to do? Will ring vets, but dont want to take her in just yet, as it will stress her out even more

rang the vet and they said not to worry too much.
Could well have been a blow to the head, so to just watch and see what happens. If it re-occurs then they want to see her immediately.
just googled cat-fits and they are usually caused by brain tumours! WIsh I hadnt looked!
She seems fine now, so hopefully is was just a bang to the head?
It was horrible to watch and I thought she was going to die......

i rescued a dog that had fits,in the end he had a fit that lasted 4 hrs so we had him PTS. when i found him he had a smashed jaw along with other injuries so probably had long term head trauma. had another dog who had them after getting worked up but were only little ones was fine.its easy for me to say but try not to worry.

She has been very quiet all day today, staying in her little private bed, which is hidden up in my sons bunk bed. Bertie doesnt know she hides in there!
I think she is OK, so fingers crossed it was a one off?

it could well be a one off so dont worry yourself too much. if it does happen again, the best thing to do is to make sure the room is dark, make sure there are no objects she can hurt herself on, and let her ride it out. try not to restrain her too much as they do not know what they are doing and can easily bite you. they other thing is, there is no point talking to them as it is like they are unconscious so she will not benefit from any soothing words unfortunately. if it lasts longer than a minute the call the vets. make sure you time it, we have a lot of clients who say the animal fitted for ages but when you actually time it, it can be like 20 seconds! it just feels like eternity when you are that worried about them. it is normal for them to be exhausted afterwards. hope she is ok x

thanks for that suidgetmidget - yes she was exhausted all day yesterday and just stayed in her bed. Today though she is totally back to normal and even has bought a mouse in and let it go under my computer desk. No doubt she will retrieve it and eat it later!
I will remember your advice - xx

Tiggy is totally back to normal, thanks guys. I really hope it was just the bang on the head. I read that fits can be caused by brain tumours, so I really dont want to go down that route!
