My sisters dog has just been given diazapam and has a tube given to them just in case he has another epiletic fit. Had all the tests but cannot find what started it. Anyone experienced this. As I haven't we are trying to find out more. He is 6years old otherwise healthy.

there can be a variety of reasons, obviously things like brain tumours, but sometimes there cannot be a clear diagnosis. recently we had a 2 year old retriever in work that was fitting all the time, had mri scans etc and the specialist could not find a reason. so sometimes it is just a case of management. speak to your vet if you have queries, they will be more than happy to discuss further investigations with you, although if your dog is not insured, you may not want to go down that route! management is important as every time the animal fits, its brain will be degenerating and therefore that increases the risk of another fit happened, so it is a downward spiral if you cannot control them. this is what happened to the dog i mentioned, he was on all the latest medication, highest doses, but for some reason it just couldnt be controlled and the owners had to admit that it was kinder he was put to sleep. so you must keep in contact with your vets so that they can ensure the case is monitored well to prolong your dog's life. xx
