Please help !!!! I have bought the most fantastic little section a but she is really fat and I am struggling to get her to loose weight. She is a typical cone shape and I am struggling to get a saddle to fit. This little pony is having 2 small haynets a day and she has been so hungry in the past that she digs up her bed looking for and strands of hay that she might of missed. She has been worked twice a day for the past few weeks and although is now much fitter she is still really fat. Yhe pony is not in foal.
Any help would be great

Can you winter her out? Mine are out and still working. Otherwise keep at it and it will start to go!

Soak her hay for up to 24 hours - removes most of the fattening sugars. Also removes all the vits and mins though, so you may need to boost those.
Better to feed bigger quantities of soaked hay to keep the metabolism going than to ration soaked hay.
Consider feeding a magnesium oxide supplement, which can help melt the fatty deposits, especially if your soil is low in magnesium.
Turn out as much as possible and rug lightly or not at all (obviously if clipped will need rug, but not too heavy).
Remember the grass will keep growing, so still have goodness in it, when the temperature is above 5 degrees - don't assume it's finished growing just because it's winter!

To get the weight off our 'A' we soaked her hay well to allow her to continue munching and be happy, fed her Top Spec anti lam balancer, and continued to work her as normal. Worked a treat.

Many thanks for the advice folks. Soaking the hay seems a good option and i shall start this tomorrow.I have felt really bad about cutting down her hay. At least she will be happier if she can have more soaked hay to munch on. I've got a day off work tomorrow and will go and look for the two supplements suggested.
Feel happy that i have some options ......

Two haynets inside each other. Haynets hung around the stable. Oat straw mixed with hay as its a very low calorie way to feed. and Saracen Shape Up. New out. Trialled this on a fat pony and it worked a treat!
