Hi, one of our ponies has a flocked show saddle and we just use a limpet to make sure doesnt move, however our second pony has a fylde and we use a courtlea all time but is there a better option as it is still quite hard with being a gel pad

I use a Stephens gel pad under one barrel pony as her saddle moves. She really needs to do extensive sit ups and lots of lower abdomenal work but I have yet to find a way of persuading her it is a good idea! Don't think it is perfect though as it will still move with a hard schooling session involving lots of lateral and canter work.
So I would be interested to know about the limpet and others. Are you saying they are not satisfactory either and that is why you want to know what others use.

I have a no withers barrel PBA, I always used a limpet pad, which is plenty thick enough on its own assuming the saddle fits well. I only stopped using it as it ripped and the mice had a chew! I now have a gel-eze pad for her which is thinner but I am equally as happy with.

I've heard of people using a damp chamois (sp) leather under saddles of barrel like ponies, i've never tried it myself though.

If the saddle fits you should'nt need to use anything although I can understand why you want a bit of cushioning if the saddle is hard! Is it bothering the pony or does the saddle slip forward?

My Lilly is shaped like a sausage! She has no wither at all and it totally round. Best bit of advice I got off HG to stop her saddle slipping was a PRO girth. I got one for her GP and it doesnt move a mm! You actually have to be careful to get the saddle 100% in the right place, before you girth up - as it will not move at all.
Havnt got one for my dressage saddle yet. That one tends to move forward if anything - under strenous work. Have the stephens gel square under it, which is pretty good, to stop the slipping but I think it would be better with the girth too.

Lovepink - is the Stephens Gel pad the one that's really sticky?

We used to have one of those but it just got stuck to everything! I think it was left hanging over the fence in the summer & eventually melted in the heat!
