I have a 16.2 who is 4 in the new year. Although he was backed 6 months ago i have only just in the last 2 weeks started to ride him and I am riding everyday. I was consentrating on lunging and long reining him at first but I had to start riding to do something different with him.
He has been going really well and we have him going forward in both walk and trot, but when we dont do any work with him he starts to get a bit bolshy and thinks he is the boss!
I am concerened that because there is no good (off road) hacking near by that he will get fed up of going in the arena, we have him going over poles to try to make it different for him.
Do i need to now stop for the winter, carry on but not every day or just keep doing what we are to keep consistant?
I want to keep riding but dont want him to get sick of being schooled.
Thanks for helping x

Have you not got anyone that can go on-road riding with you? He will love it x I wouldn't keep going in the school as he is likely to start getting fed up and nap.

Hi, I posted similar topic and the general idea i got back is to carry on and do a little but often. I am in the same boat and it is difficult but i do take my youngster hacking and she loves it. I only go in the school a couple of times a week as i dont want her to get stale. Try either riding with someone or walking him out in hand or on long reins if he is good on them just to build his confidence. Good luck i know how you feel you just dont know what to do for the best!!

Is there a riding club you could join and go to some clinics. Our rc does lots of back to basics clinics suitable for babies. It shall get you both out.

I shouldn't think you'll have any where to ride, lunge or owt with this snow and frozen ground. I just thought I'd chime in to say not all horses get bored by being in the school. It's more that their riders do. There are so many basic things to work on and establish apart from all the new things to learn.
Keep the work interesting. Don't just trudge round and round on tram tracks. It's more interesting than hacking and far more productve.
