Toffee, the hand reared feral kitten, is not at all well this afternoon.
He was fine this morning, had his food and went out to play.
He came home early afternoon whilst I was out with the dogs and I though he looked a bit miserable but put it down to the fact that he had missed coming with us, as he always tries to do. He was just sat in the kitchen looking a bit forlorn.
When OH came home about an hour later Toffee was lying on the hotspot of the heating pipes in the doorway. Nothing unusual there, but when I looked at him a bit closer he had a bit of a wet patch on the back of his hindleg, as if he had been licking it perhaps.
Anyway, when I went to touch it he was really angry and growling at me. He isn't the easiest to handle at the best of times yet due to his feral streak but this was different. He seems to be sore down his back or in his hind legs. If pressured he will get up and walk but only far enough to get out of reach before just lying down again.
I was going to leave hi until tomorrow to see how he is then but have decided that it is clearly very painful for him so he's off to the vets shortly.
Wish us luck and a not too big vets bill!!

Well, back from the vets. Although it was not easy to examine him the vet seems to think it is abscess over his spine, probably caused by fighting. So serves him right for that.
He had a go at Flossy the other day and she developed an nasty abscess which we didn't know about until it burst. Good old Aloe Vera gel cleared it up in no time at all.
The vet did say it didn't look as though it was going to burst and clear itself so he has had some pain killers and antibiotics. Fingers crossed.
If the CPL don't come along soon to get the neutering done I think I shall have to fork out, if it stops him fighting.

Well, Toffee seemed okay for the last two weeks but this morning he keeps being sick and is off his food totally. That is most unusual, Toffee usually eats his and anybody else's if possible!!
Looks like another trip to the vets for him later to try and get it sorted before Christmas. Why do these things seem to happen at Christmas when the vets are going to be shut, apart from emergency treatment only?!!

Vet said his temperature is okay and that he had probably eaten something he shouldn't. I'd worked that one out myself. Anyway he's had a couple of injections and it's a case of see how he is tomorrow.
He is still very lethargic so will have to see what the morning brings.

He's definitely better today than he was yesterday, although he is still a bit off colour. He has been well enough to go out a bit and he has managed to climb the Christmas tree and pull it over, yet again!! Fingers crossed he is on the mend now.
The tree is looking worse for wear, after being pulled over at least half a dozen times so far!!
Another kitty hasn't been as lucky. When I went to check the ponies who are about a mile away I saw something in the distance that was clearly a dead animal. Call me silly but I don't like to see dead animals getting constantly run over and always hope that if it was one of mine some kind soul would remove it from the road. I walked over to it and it was a tabby cat/kitten so I moved it out of the way. It was either a long way from home or possibly a feral as there is only one property within about 1/4 mile and they have no cats. I did see a black and white feral in the ponies field last week so I guess this was another one.
