I used to breed lurchers, and I had a 32" black dog who lived with my bit*h. 15 days of trying to mate them with no success, I thought it was because she was only 24" and he was too big, I took him to the vet and his hormone levels were low, lacking libido! How do you know that this is not the case here? Josh used to be the same. After a hormone injection, he produced 11 pups! My bit*h only had 10 teets! That is another story.

The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his Tongue.

lots of questions to ask really
1. are you sure she is ready? 2. have you had her blood tested to see if she is actually ovulating 3. is it an experienced stud dog or is he new to the game 4. has she gone over?
I breed irish setters and its alwayst tricky finding the right moment.... each dog is different..
I always blood test a maiden bit*h so I know exactly when she will ovulate... this helps with a) getting the right day and b) not putting the bit*h thru any undue trauma of an over excited dog if she is not ready to stand.
rule of thumb is usually go on day 12 and 14. (counting day 1 as the first day you spot blood) Also if you can find a teaser dog somewhere, he will let you knwo when she is ready to mate.
good luck.... its a trying time...

p.s you could also ask the stud dogs owners to keep your bit*h for a couple of days (providing you are sure she hasnt gone over)...
my pal is a proffesional tyer and it does help having someone very experienced there, especially for the larger breeds..
