one of my horses likes to buck in the ring..... right he's just had 1. brand new showsaddle fitted by proff so not that 2. had his teeth done in nov not that 4. rides nicely in a snaffle when not bucking 3. had his back dont in sept not that and there were not probs on doing it 4. on a sensible none heating diet 5. def a full gelding not a rigg as even had hormo's tested with a blood test by the vet 6. tried calming supplements what a waste of expensive money they were lol WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIM ........ ?? he has an attitude problm when he is that way out one of these if ou smack him for being naughty gives it ou back but ten times worse. he usually is a good oy at home an fab at shows til he gets in ring but its no fun when your guna win as best in class then he goes and sticks his aprty trick in any ideas .........

Not very helpful, but I think you just have to keep taking him out. I really do think it is a bit of tension/excitement. The ones with attitude tend not to show tension in the same ways as others and it comes across as being naughty.
Better to just ignore the 'bucking' and reward the good behaviour.

i agree, could also be if the rider is a bit tence or nervous in the ring passing it on to him (i know i do this at shows with my baby!) i would keep taking him out and try to relax with him, do small fun shows, maybe jumping or somthing different to take him mind off bucking! good luck xx

We had one who did this, a lovely whp, he would stick one in, in the ring, 8 out of ten times, nothing wrong with him physically and the buck wasn't anything to worry about, but was most annoying, especially, as you say, was best in the ring! Would also do it at the start of a hack. Dont think he has got out of it now, dont think he ever will, was the same for 4 yrs! good luck pennypoo maybe different for yours, keep perservering.

i went through a stage with a 5 year old hunter and he would always buck when asked to gallop so i would always have a warm up class before the class i was really going for and found this really worked along with patience and perseverance and he became very reliable, stay relaxed at all times and if you can feel it comming try different things to stop him like changing pace / soften him up through flexion, try not to sit there and let it happen.
