not sure if i have spelt it right or if this question is in the right area but i wondered how you could find out if your foal was homozygous. What do you do to get them tested and how old does the foal need to be.
thanks

I assume you mean homozygous for tobiano? That's the most usual. It just means having two copies of a gene, any gene! Some may well want to know if they are homozygous for grey, I know I try to know which of mine are but haven't felt the need to get any actually tested yet.

If you are wanting it testing for homozygous tobiano(or whatever) are both parents tobiano(or whatever) as if not it can't possibly be homozygous so you could save the cost of a test.

If you are testing a foal then they recommend that you pull hairs from the tail not the mane. The tail hairs in a youngster give a stronger DNA result and you should also try and pull when the tail is warm as more DNA material comes away at the root, this may save you a weak result and the lab having to do additional test which they can sometimes charge for.
