101 questions for all you experienced horse breeders...... Fingers crossed and fate being gentle with me - the lovely Violet will be having a foal in July. Whats the form? Do nothing before he/she safely arrives, as doing anything before is bad luck? Sort out where I would register foal now and sort out prefix? Also - Violet is KWPN - Dutch bred. Sire is also KWPN -but covering certificate is from Anglo European Studbook. Who do I register foal with?

I would think the AES would be your best starting point. I havn't dealt with them but I have found most societies are very helpful! I registered my KWPN x TB with British Warmblood Society and they were great.
regarding prefix - if you plan to use one then you need to register it at the same time. Whichever society you go with should be able to provide you with the application form (or get in directly from central prefix register). Its easiest for your 1st foal to send in prefix application (which has to be done thru a breed society to start with) along with your foal registration forms. It will take a bit longer as they have to wait for the prefix to be registered first. I think you can probably do your prefix registration before but as it can be done as the same time as the foal registration I found it just as easy to send it all in together (and not tempting fate!) You can of course just register the foal with a name rather than a prefix too which means you dont need to have a prefix.
I know what you mean about tempting fate but it would probably help to do a bit of phoning around first so you know what you need to do. I cant remember which society it was now but I now I came across one which you had to notify them within 7 days of birth of foal.
Give the AES a ring, I'm sure they'll help and be very friendly.
