Hi
Was just wondering what people felt about showing and being pregnant (doing Flat Ridden classes, Hoys qualifiers etc)?
Is tehre a rule in place by the socities that means that you cant show??

I say if you feel ok then do it.....but check with your insurance company first to see if they will insure you riding whilst pregnant xxx

I think it depends on how you feel! I didnt show but I did drive the lorry and ride 'Second horse' out hunting til 4 weeks before my first daughter was born. I was glad that was the last meet thou. But couldnt have ridden anywhere near as long with the second! Dont think there are any specific rules on it but I am sure someone will come up with some health and safety 'issue' like there is for everything these days. I say - personal choice

I didn't ride but did show the lead rein ponies 'til 17 days before my daughter was born last summer!! I felt great after my c.section and I am sure this is alot to do with the fact that I kept running and mobile with the ponies as long as I could.

I rode with my last child 6 years ago when I was pregnant even webt hunting early on in the pregnancy, when I got too big I just showed my little ponies in hand for a while but did find it hard to run at times ! I then rode my old pony on a short hack the day I gave birth, baby was a week late and I was trying anything to bring on labour ;D This time the last time I rode properly was at about 4 months preganant on my big mare down the beach where we lived, since I have sat on her for 10 mins in the yard, I have just felt too uncomfortable this time around to do much at all , but then I am an older Mum !! in my 40's now, so I guess its very much up to the individual and how you feel, I knew someone who was still hunting up to her 7th month ;D if I did that right now me thinks baby would be coming during the meet Hmmm not a bad idea though at least MIL wouldnt be able to try to spectate at the birth lol !! ;D

Course you can. Its up to you to decide if its safe or not and that is another thread altogether! Look at the eventers who still ride round Badminton etc 5 months. Mary King competed at the olympics 5 months gone.
I personally wouldnt jump at all pregnant, but thats my choice.
I rode till 3 months the first time, but as baby was very long awaited, I felt over-protective and didnt feel safe, so stopped. I did still show in-hand and the phots of me are VILE ! Horse looks fab, I look like a huge dwarf with the fattest legs and knees you have ever seen! YUK !
With 2nd I rode till 6 months and even did a sponsored ride, galloping and all. Couldnt get jods on after that, so decided enough was enough.
Friends of mine have still been cantering up the tracks at 8.5 months!
I think its up to the individual to weigh up the risks and decide for themselves xx

It's an individual thing and your decision. I don't think your insurance company would be that keen though. As with all physical activities you should be fit enough to do it and I think your centre of gravity shifts whilst pregnant so you need to be aware of that.

I rode all the way through my only pregnancy, had a trouble free labour and was back onboard after 2 weeks! I think it is personal preference.....do what you feel safe doing!

Hi there, I rode until about 7 months pregnant, when I had real trouble getting on and off!! I tried putting both legs over to one side and sliding down for a couple of weeks, but eventually gave in. Carried on the In- Hand until I was 8 and a half months and even took a yearling to his first ever show at that size!! It totally depends on you as an individual and your horses, and how safe you feel. I will say though.........the muscles in your pelvic floor area don't slacken off properly if you do carry on riding til the last few months..... I ended up with spaghetti junction stitches!!!!! Good luck with whatever you choose!

I rode until I was 3 months pregnant and then it just didnt feel right, it just felt wrong and uncomfortable and I didnt want to put my unborn baby at any risk of coming to any harm. I was back on after 2 weeks of a straight forward labour and then qualified for hoys not long after, took a long time to stop aching after riding though!!
I would imagine if you want to show whilst pregnant you will have to make some substantial alterations to your jacket.

I rode with my my children until the last few weeks of pregnancy but only because I had avery steady and safe horse at the time. My daughter rode when expecting her daughter and then when the babay was a couple of weeks old she rode at a show, jumping the WHP and then breastfeeding the baby in the collecting ring before going in to do that flat show. This is however not to be recommended! It is right, it is a very individual choice.

have no plans to get pregnant ever - but if i did i would still ride for as long as possible. as for shows/events etc - i think you just need to check the rules for each event and you own insurance - if neither have a problem then go for it!

I rode upto 7 months but stopped showing when my jacket wouldnt fasten depends how you feel and how good your horse is it's not worth putting the "bump" in danger for a rosette, congratulations

i rode with both my pregnacies also had incidents with both. 1st time horse slipped and lay on my legs and second time driving my pony hit a tree stump hidden in undergrowth and fell out of cart and got dragged along!!!!! sounds crazy but no one can tell you these things are going to happen and fortunately both children are ok i . looking back very funny now and both times i didnt hit my bump (amazing really think you are probably safer in a showing environement if you have a sensible horse. would still ride if i have another - the human body is amazing - definately up to you -also got asked at a show when i was showing in hand at 8months pregnant if i had come for the brood mare class!!!! definately up to you, you know your body and horses
good luck

I think everyone is different. Just have to do what is right for you. Your body will tell you what to do.
I have a 14mth old. I had every intention of riding & showing until I got too big to look right in the ring. However, i was soo poorly I couldn't ride after 3mths.
It is such a short time its not worth stressing about. Back riding again & looking forward to lead-rein!!
Congrats and good luck to all those who are pregnant!!!

riding is a personal choice -I did until around 5 months. Must say I found it harder to pick out feet with a big bump !!!
