Thats disgusting! when i got a new rug i used to write my postcode in big letters all over it with a marker pen and also write microchipped on it! rug dosn't look as pretty but i think it would deter the thieves a bit.

Its happened to me too!! My pony was left in the rain. It frightened one of my ponies so bad, it took me a week to catch her again.

they steal them with post codes on in hampshire, so you rush out and buy one and dont get time to post code as your horse is now wet and cold then the rotten person with no parents pinch them and sell them as they havent been post coded cause the paint wouldnt of dryed in time to put a rug back on a pony. some people really are the scum on the earth.

the paint wouldnt of dryed in time to put a rug back on a pony. some people really are the scum on the earth. I had a rug taken off a 28yr old arab and she was left in the pouring rain. If no time to wait for paint to dry, use permanent marker pens and I also buy silver and gold paint pens. I make them look completely trashed now. My name, freezemark number, postcode, anything!

And why do people buy these rugs at horse sales--still with the mud on them--why do they perpetuate this type of theft

permanent markers dont always show up on muddy rugs in the dark night so they still get stolen. not all rugs get stolen to sale at horse sales some steal for there own use. i would not buy a rug with postcode on unless seller could prove it was there postcode ie on house hold bill.

Oh my god somebody tried to do this to mine the other night! i think i or disturbed them as they left them on the floor
the foal was stood there-soaking wet miserable
How did i know? they made a boo boo trying to take one of my two year old colt-if he doesnt know you-you cant take his rug off-they'd undone the surcingles on a pretty new fal pro chieftan and given up-then the rug had slide round and torn where he'd stood on it
So not only was he nearly hurt-they trashed the rug IDIOTS!
well im taking some old rugs to the sales tomorrow covered in mud-cause ive treated them all to new ones-and written allover them!!

This sort of thing really makes me mad, howcan people leave horses shivering in the cold, its totally heartless not to mention the owners that have to fork out for more rugs, because some lowlife has stolen the ones they had.
